The general rules right now are:

1. Draft 5 countries.

I guess that's pretty much it. Once the games get started, it's 5 points for gold, 3 points for silver, and 1 point for bronze. No, you don't get one medal for each member of the team that wins, in the team sports.

Draft rules:

1. 8 Hour clocks.
2. Clock count is suspended from midnight EDT to 8am EDT. Sorry, but I've been stuck at the 2am draft spot before, and it sucks. Wait, no, I'm not sorry.
3. I don't have the time to keep track of auto-skips and such. So once the 8 hours is up, you're on auto-skip until you pick again, then it's business as usual.

We can debate these if you want, but I'm pretty set on them, especially rule #2. But give me a good reason.

THINGS TO BE DECIDED:

1. Combining Olympics and Paralympics medal count, or not?
2. Use reverse-order from standings in Sochi for draft order, like for other drafts (C&B)?
3. The USA problem.....

What's the USA problem? (In this context. I've got several in mind that likely don't apply here.)

The issue is the US normally does so well in these things getting Pick #1 and picking them pretty much locks in victory.

The past couple of these the US was ineligible to make it balanced-er. I support the continuation of this policy

The USA problem is that Team USA dominates. Thus it might be possible that with 5 countries each, whomever gets Team USA wins. There's a possible similar issue with Team China lately, looking at medal counts for the last few.

Possible solutions thus far:

• If you draft Team USA, you are take a 1-country penalty, so you have 4 instead of 5 countries. (Maybe for Team China, too).
• Team USA (and maybe Team China) are ineligible.
• Something else we haven't thought of.

For London2012 Team USA was just ineligible, but that wasn't a draft we just picked countries in chat.

We did keep Team USA for Sochi, because they don't dominate it. And I think the winner did not have either Team USA or Team China on my list?

What about making every country eligible to be drafted twice, but with the caveat that they must be drafted in opposite rounds; i.e. round 1, i take Italy, nobody else in an odd round can take italy, but someone can take italy in an even round. Basically, whoever picks first and last would both get the United States but the difference in scoring would come with the other countries taken. The other thing is we'd have to expand to 6 rounds.

When does the draft start?

Will the refugee team be eligible for drafting?

Most definitely the Refugee team is eligible.

Since the games don't start until Aug 5, we can probably start drafting Monday, June 27. I get back from hippie camp 2 the day before. We should probably need to be done by July 11 if at all possible because then I leave for hippie camps 3 and 4, and won't be back until July 24, unless someone wants to volunteer to take over.

I think we'll give the double-draft thing a shot, so each country can be picked twice.

Past players will be listed in reverse winning order from Sochi. Checking with the C&B folks on how adding newbies in is handled.

Did we ever come to a decision on the rules/start for this. I'm still interested in participating, but need to start getting some summer plans set up and don't want to hold things up if it is starting later than I expected.
