2. Yes, I'd much rather vote for unique characters that fit a concept even if they've never been in space because I don't think that matters as much as making sense for the team than characters who exist together and have interacted and bring nothing new to the table.

I get Dev on this. Doctor Who is constantly taking people who were never in space before to space. Luke Skywalker wasn't really in space till he hopped on board the Falcon....he was bound to his planet just like we are.
