OK, y’all. We haven’t done one of these in a while and I’m feeling froggy.

Rules:

• You're recasting up to 15 acting roles (no writing or directing) for either a single movie or a movie franchise.
• You only need to identify your movie/franchise when you submit your cast; you do NOT need to draft/name it separately. This should supply a level of fun and surprise if drafters recast the same movie or franchise. So yes, in theory we could see The Empire Strikes Back vs. The Star Wars franchise; it just comes to down to who did it better.
• A cinematic universe is NOT a franchise (example: you may recast all three Iron Man movies but that doesn't give you the entire MCU. You're recasting characters from those three movies only. Same with any other characters or groups who have standalone movies as part of a larger universe.)      
• There's no cap or floor for how many movies you can use from a franchise. If you want to recast the 10 F&F movies (I included Hobbs & Shaw), go ahead. If you want to cherry pick, that's fine too.
• Eligibility questions should be routed through me.

I’m good with opening this up to a movie franchise.

TV is a separate thing and it’s something you can run next time.

If you're making it a franchise, you need to be specific on how that would work.

For example, if somebody drafts the Star Wars franchise, does that take all Star Wars movies off the table? Or could I still take the Empire Strikes Back if I wanted? Or if I take the Empire Strikes Back then is the franchise off the table, but other Star Wars movies are cool?

Those are great questions.

I'd be fine with letting people take franchises and thereby take other movies off the table, since it keeps options diverse. I'm also up for a compromise where you can take up to a trilogy.

I think anything larger then a trilogy would be something that would need to be split up. For example, I could draft the prequels of star wars but Leo could draft the Originals and Solly could draft the new trilogy. Or the same with say the Lord of the Rings or Hobbit Trilogy.

If we do entire franchise how big is it? Is there a cap on how many movies? Obviously you're limited by roster spots, but could someone draft the entire Fast and Furious franchise?

I'd be fine with the franchise idea IF it still left the individual movies on the board. Much like how in the record draft we did, taking a box set didn't eliminate every album themselves. Also, Mayhem, what are these 'prequels' you speak of? They do not exist, you understand me? THEY DO NOT EXIST!

I echo Mayhem’s concerns. If we’re allowing franchises, that needs to be strictly defined. Star Wars is easy enough, but is the entire MCU a franchise? Just each phase? Just each character’s or group’s solo movies? I think it’s a lot easier to just keep it to a single movie each.

I would think that first a franchise has to have the same titles, so Iron Man/Captain America/Avengers would all be okay separately, but MCU would not as that's more of a universe than a franchise. For Star Wars, I would think that you can take the entire 9 movies or if you only want to break it up into trilogies you can, or if you want to take a single movie, you can. And I agree with SG's theory of the box set in that taking either an entire franchise or trilogy would still allow someone else to take a single movie within that franchise. It'll make the showdown even more interesting as people will be able to choose who did the recast better for that specific movie/franchise.

I just don't think this is one where we need a lot of clarification just to make sure everyone gets what they want and still have fun. If multiple people wanted to do parts of Star Wars, this still lets them while also not forcing people to take their movie first to make sure they get it and missing out on specific actors/actresses they wanted. I'd even be okay if we didn't have to draft the movie/franchise we wanted at all and only revealed that at the end and if two people have the same exact movie or franchise, so be it. Let's see who recast it better.

The more I think about it, I'm actually against the idea of drafting franchises/trilogies at all. Just pick one movie and cast it. If you pick Empire, you don't get to cast Uncle Owen or Bib Fortuna; just stick to the characters who appear in Empire. If you're desperate to cast Bib Fortuna (and I know you are), pick Jedi. At some point, it becomes a disadvantage if I'm drafting for a 2-hour movie with 10 worthwhile characters and someone else is dealing with 8 hours worth of movies and dozens of characters.

If we go with 1 movie only, then the quality of the movie can not be a judgement in the voting...only the recasting. If I want to grab a relatively bad movie in a franchise because it has more characters to choose from, that should not be a factor in the voting process. Not that we can judge this, but as an example, this would force me to draft Furious 7 instead of a potential better movie (Fast Five) because 7 gives me added characters like Shaw & Nobody while keeping the core characters.

It's why drafting a franchise over a single movie shouldn't matter because the quality of 10 hours compared to 2 shouldn't matter as it's just a matter of who did a better job of recasting the parts.

I wouldn't mind this.

My stance on the franchise thing would be that we all draft just single movies. It just seems kind of uneven to judge one movie vs. a series of several movies.
