Welcome to the new default theme for Pun's House!
I've put way more hours into this than I'd like to admit. I've been working on this theme for several months now. You may have noticed some small changes happening here and there around the board recently (or maybe you haven't noticed; regardless, changes were happening), and that's because some of the codes/scripts had to be put into the global header/footer, which affects every theme at once, so that's why some of the tweaks were also visible on the old default theme.
Some changes that I feel are noticeable/important/cool enough to point out specifically:
- The home page, obviously, has had a total redesign. Some not-quite-necessary stuff was cut out to make it cleaner/simpler. The Shoutbox and Infocenter are immediately viewable without having to scroll to see them, so any new shouts/topics/conversations of any kind are in your face on page load without having to search them out or remember they exist in order to check on them. Everything here is collapsible, too. Click on a title bar to collapse/expand a module—and your configuration should be saved so that it looks the same way the next time you visit. This also applies to the quick reply in-thread.
- The page width has been reigned in from taking up almost the entire screen. We're a text-based forum, so having a more manageable width makes readability a lot better. It's set to scale percentage-wise and also has a minimum width, so it won't be weirdly squeezed if you have a small screen or drag the window to the side for some split-screen computing.
- The navigation tree now expands to more than three branches when you're deep into sub-boards. It's not perfect—you'll notice that some of the branches don't link to the exact location that they're labeled as being—but it's the closest I was able to get because Proboards has the navigation tree stylized specifically to do what it does by default, so any changes applied to it are mostly visual rather than practical. I think it looks/feels a lot nicer this way, though.
- The navigation bar now has a drop down feature. A few of the buttons/links will have secondary options drop down when you hover on them (example: hovering over "Profile" reveals "Notifications" and "Edit Profile" in the drop down). Just a slightly quicker way to get to some of the more commonly used/more important places.
- Thread/sub-board lists have had a redesign. Replies and views (and threads and posts for sub-boards) were combined into one category ("Activity"). This was something I saw on some other forums that looked cleaner than having two separate columns for the same information. The thread creation information is under the title, and the thread icon is the avatar of the creator (the latest post column also displays the avatar of the latest poster). Sub-boards of sub-boards are now displayed in a hover dropdown. The "Showdown Archive" page was especially busy with the sub-boards just being displayed as regular links along with everything else on the page. I think the dropdown makes it cleaner and easier to find specifically what you're looking for.
- Likes and LOLs have been moved to the bottom of posts. I saw it mentioned years ago (browsing old threads) that this positioning was preferred by some (I agreed), and jumped through hoops to get everything to work correctly. I even had an outside party working on a couple different javascript codes for a week in order for everything here to work together correctly and function smoothly. This was probably the most intensive/difficult change of them all. I'm proud of this one.
- Mini-profiles had some small updates applied to them. Pretty self-explanatory. My favorite part is the different name colors to match star color (for reference: mod=gold, global mod=green, admin=red, standard poster=default blue, owner=black).
And there are a bunch of other small changes here and there that I won't bore you with the details on. I'm not going to say that I'm completely finished with everything, because I've said that probably a dozen times already before noticing something else I want to add or tweak a little bit, but any changes going forward will be minimal.
If you don't want to use the new theme, you can go into your profile settings and change it back to the old one (it's titled "PH Original"). If you were using a theme other than the old default, it will be re-enabled and available soon. Some of the styling here and there might be a little wonky, but everything should still work fine. I just forced the new theme as the default to make everybody aware that it exists and is available for use. I think it's cleaner and works better—plus, it has some additional features—but if you prefer the old one, you should feel free to swap back.
If you notice something that doesn't work right or look right, please let me know so I can hopefully address it. I've tested basic navigation in Chrome, Firefox, IE, and Edge. I've been using this new theme the entire time that I've been working on it, so everything has been thoroughly tested and should work as intended, but there's always the possibility of something going wonky. If you have any suggestions on changes of any kind, I'm all ears. No promises that I'll implement the changes, but I'll listen to and consider them. There's also the possibility of creating different variations of this theme (different colors, dark mode, etc.), but that's a-whole-nother topic. As with everything, I'm open to feedback.
