Welcome! Rules are below in this post, draft order will be posted below that shortly. Please review the top rules briefly, as they address what is unique about this draft.
Basic Format: Forty rounds of drafting persons connected to wrestling (see “Wrestler Eligibility” below) in a random draft order, with the picking split into three special phases prior to a showdown.
Opening Bell: Monday, November 29, 2021, at 12:00 pm Eastern. Picks may begin as soon as this thread opens, but no clocks will begin until the opening bell. (See “Picks and Clock Management” below.) Roster swap and tournament dates will be set at a later time to be posted in the thread.
No Calling Your Draft: For obvious reasons, our minimum and maximum roster size is 40. Should any player or team drop out during the drafting process, I will assign another drafter to assemble a roster and cards in their place.
Liberalized Announcer Rule: Since you’re (likely) out of control of your roster for most of the draft, you only need one dedicated announcer per card who does not wrestle, though two (or more) is strongly recommended. Announcers may change every card. See “Wrestler Eligibility” below for who may qualify.
Eco Hates Arenas Rule: No arena drafting.
Special Trading Rules:
Trades should be posted and confirmed in the main draft thread. No trade is complete until confirmed by both parties. Draft picks and roster members may both be traded subject to the constraints above. The usual rule that trades cannot occur that are wildly unfair (“Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels for Doink and Dink”) does apply. However, the fact that rosters are traded does not mean you need to make “reasonable” picks for your roster when actually picking.
Eco’s Special Inanimate Objects Rule: For one draft only, inanimate objects are eligible to be drafted (like Moppy or Mr. Socko), but only in Round 40.
Picks and Clock Management (these rules are mostly the same):
• Each player has an 8 Hour Clock, beginning at the time of the previous pick.
• Clocks will freeze overnight, from 12 midnight to 8 am eastern.
• The first clock of the day will expire at the 8 hour limit, or 12 noon, whichever comes first.
• In the event of a missed clock or an invalid pick, the next player is on the clock.
• While the player who made the invalid pick may re-pick whenever they have the opportunity.
• First missed clock = OOPS!
• Second missed clock = you are placed on 4-hour clocks moving forward.
• Third missed clock = yeah, we’re skipping you from now on.
• In the event of ANY missed clock, you will be auto-skipped until you post in the draft board to indicate you’re back and make your missed selection(s).
• Players can only draft one roster member per pick.
• If you have multiple picks on succession, those picks are considered one clock, and if you make less than the full number of successive picks, the missing picks will be skipped. You won’t be auto-skipped when your next turn comes up, and will not incur a missed-pick penalty.
• If you know you will not be available, it is recommended you leave a list with someone. If your list is exhausted, your clock will start and if it expires you will be skipped according to the rules above. If you leave a list with someone, they are picking as you, and any penalties are assessed to the owner of the pick.
Wrestler Eligibility (these rules are mostly the same):
Players can draft anyone who has participated in professional wrestling but can only use them in the way they were used:
• Tier One: Wrestler - Participated in at least one verifiable career match
• Tier Two: Performer (Authority Figure, Announcer, Valet / Manager)
• Tier Three: Crew Member (Referee, Timekeeper)
• Tier Four: Special Guest (Musical Acts, Guest Speakers, etc...)
• You may use someone for a position lower than their level of participation, but not above. Guest Hosts are considered Authority Figures. Announcer includes Ring Announcers and Television Commentators.
• If multiple people have portrayed a character, you must make clear who you are drafting (you draft the wrestler, not the character)
• If a person has portrayed multiple characters throughout their career and are drafted, you can use any of those portrayed characters.
• Anyone drafted must have participated in a professional wrestling event hosted or filmed by an actual professional wrestling company. This includes animals who are documented as participating in a match (Terrible Ted, Chloe, etc.) and other questionable but verifiable entities (Abraham Lincoln) can be drafted. Supernatural or transcendent entities are not eligible (which includes the usual “don’t draft God” rule). Participation only within the realm of fictional wrestling federations does not qualify; participation only within a cinematic match will qualify only if the hosting company exists in the real world.
• Professional Wrestling Only. Wrestling in a backyard or other makeshift venues does not make one eligible. Selling tickets to "events" or airing matches on YouTube or Public Access does not make one a professional and they are therefore not eligible to be drafted.
John Quincy Adams Rule: I’m still in the market for a formal tiebreaker, but will first prompt voters from anyone who has not voted.
This Is Not A Democracy Rule (rule is the same):
I will make the final decisions. All decisions will be made with The Integrity of the Draft in mind. However, if I am not quick to reply, I am totally fine with whatever Sharky, Leo, or Hodgey decide. (Dash designated these three and they seem trustworthy.)
Basic Format: Forty rounds of drafting persons connected to wrestling (see “Wrestler Eligibility” below) in a random draft order, with the picking split into three special phases prior to a showdown.
- Phase One – The Sweet Sixteen: For the first sixteen rounds, you pick as normal. You may also trade with two conditions: (1) all trades must result in all rosters having sixteen roster members by the end of Round 16 and (2) you cannot trade any picks occurring after Round 16.
- Phase Two – Electric Boogaloo: After Phase One, the rosters are randomly assigned (via random.org) to participants. You can end up with your original roster; most likely, you will not. From Round 17 to 32, you will again pick as normal. You may also trade with three conditions: (1) all trades must result in all rosters having thirty-two roster members by the end of Round 32, (2) you cannot trade any picks occurring after Round 32, and (3) you may trade no more than five persons picked before Round 16.
- Phase Three – The Final Countdown: After Phase Two, the rosters are again randomly assigned (via random.org) to participants, who will then hold these rosters for the showdown portion. Again, you can end up with one of the two rosters you held before, but most likely, you will not. You may also trade with three conditions: (1) all trades must result in all rosters having forty roster members by the end of the draft, (2) you cannot trade any picks occurring after Round 32, and (3) you may trade no more than five persons picked before Round 32.
- Showdown: There is no add/drop or additional trade time after Round 40 – we proceed straight to the showdown. With an even twelve, I expect to have a couple round-robin triple threats that produce a top four for semifinals and finals.
