This is where I jump off Quantum Leap. I liked the show but never watched it in its first run. Therefore never got the episode by episode storyline like I have with Lost.

I just don't get why you seem to naturally dislike shows purely because you're disinterested in them. Why does apathy become dislike? You seemed to express the same sentiment about House. You seem to express the same sentiment towards the "comic shows." I mean, I have never had an ounce of interest in watching a scene of 24. I even own the 1st 2 seasons on DVD that I got for Christmas 2 years ago and I've never opened them except to check and see if the packages were intact (and actually, there was 1 DVD missing from one of the sets). But I don't naturally dislike 24 and I have no desire to vote against it.

Although I do get really annoyed on Monday nights when people collect to watch 24 and make a big fucking deal about me not making noise or disturbing them when all I'm trying to do is watch Heroes with the volume up and total focus too.

But even if I hadn't seen Quantum Leap, there is something about Lost that just annoys the fuck out of me, so I wouldn't have voted for it anyway, well unless it was against House or 24. What a nightmare that would be

My tastes in movies and music were very similar to Moose. Even in comedy TV showdown it was fairly close. But 24, Lost, and House are my favorite 3 dramas. Had to different somewhere I guess.

The difference between you and Moose is we're assuming you've given shows a chance and/or you're voting because you like the other show more. Even my broad generalizations have come from watching both shows. In my opinion, it's more legitimate for me to say Boston Public is the worst show in the history of television because I actually watched Boston Public and can compare it to other things I've watched. Moose makes the same comments about 24, Lost, and House having never taken the time to watch the show.

Moose hates Lost because he's never seen it. I hated Boston Public because I have. It's where I'm smart and he's a fucking moron.

Anyway, back to the point, Quantum Leap was good, Lost has shown flashes of brilliance and even it's "negatively" received episodes have been good. I'm 95% sure Lost is going to float through this half of the bracket as it's competition isn't that strong and the showdowns have already alienated possible fans of the shows. Angel or Firefly vs. Lost would make me happy just to see Moosey's head explode before a potential Lost vs Buffy or Lost vs. House final.

And I don't hate Lost because I have never seen it, I hate lost because everything I have ever heard about it makes me roll my eyes and wonder how people can watch it. Why do we get so hung up with best EVER because of these showdowns. Of course we are going to slant to newer shows. We watch TV NOW. I don't vote for shows of the 72s or 80s because I wasn't alive or old enough to watch those shows. The winners and losers really have no bearing on actual greatness over the test of time. Rather it is a snapshot of how a collection of mostly 20-40 year old men (and a few gals) view different genres. If we ran the same showdowns 10 years from now we'd get different winners. New shows would pique our interest. Some of the shows we now love will fail the test of time. Others will end up gaining momentum.

I don't blame you for not watching Lost because it doesn't appeal. That is why I never watched Buffy or Angel. That is why I don't watch much CSI or Law & Order. Part of a new show's job is to make people want to watch. Obviously Lost, 24, and House failed to connect with Moose. Based off of Moose's noms I can see most of today's dramas have failed at that. At the end of the day that is fine. Does it surprise you that you can't stand the Final Four of the showdown if you didn't bother to come up with more then 10 shows worthy of nominations? I only came up with 3 Cable shows and was bascially kept with no shows of interest by Round 3 but it didn't surprise me or anger me. I realized that that was not MY genre. This one is clearly not yours.

Kid, I agree with you, I really had to struggle to come up with noms for this one. I don't watch much tv anyway, and when I do, it is not the majority of the shows in this showdown. So, I am not surprised in the least that the majority of shows that are left are shows that I either haven't seen, didn't like when I did see them, or had no interest in watching in the first place.

It does shock me though that the younger crowd has not at least SEEN the older shows. I know there has been an argument that nostalgia of older shows carries too many of them too far, but I think the opposite holds true too, ignorance of older shows has helped carry undeserving new shows as well.

I was born in 1982. I wasn't watching much TV before the age of 8. And what I can remember (Dukes, Knight Rider) I really can't remember details. I know I liked the General Lee and the talking car. As far as storylines go I can't remember shit. Of course I'm going to vote for shows that I currently watch NOW over those shows. Hell even in the 90s I didn't watch too much TV. Mostly I watched sports and wrestling and when I did watch TV is mostly 30 minute comedies.

You are 100% right about this. I actually am guilty of both. In a battle of Old Show I watched a little vs. Show I saw nothing of I vote nostalgia. But I'll ALWAYS vote for a show I currently watch week in an week out over these shows that I can't remember much. That is why I consider it more os a snapshot then an end all of quality.

Yeah, I was born in '80. Did I watch Dukes of Hazzard and Miami Vice? Sure, a little. But at the age of 7 or 9 or whatever I was more into watching Thundercats weekly than Don Johnson. I wasn't a regular viewer so I don't get that "fan" thing that you guys have. And I retain very little of it. Now I seem to differ from Mkid and Courtney and others in that I watch a lot of older stuff. I actually really love being able to watch Season 1 of a show I never watched before, enjoy it, and realize I have 3-5 more seasons all done and waiting for me to view. That's fucking awesome. Its a very unique process. I only latched onto Lost in Season 3. I only latched onto House in Season 3. I only started watching Las Vegas in Season 6. Smallville Season 6 (or whatever the last one was). But I insist on watching them through the beginning. So it was really cool to realize I enjoyed House and then be able to sit down knowing I had 70+ hours available to me. And once I realize I'm coming to the end I get sad. Its nothing like watching a show weekly or watching a 2 hour film. I love it. The only think like it is a long series of books or comic books. A film trilogy or more fits but to a lesser extent.

Its a part of storytelling and entertainment I love. You know what's weird? I don't much like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. But I get a kick out of collecting all 6 Star Wars films and the Clone Wars cartoons and watching them all in proper order and succession. Its an epic story to watch. I watch Rocky V when I'm watching all the Rocky films. I watched all those crappy Halloween movies when I was watching the whole run this October. I just like that stuff. So I actively seek out TV shows that I never watched before, whether they're 2 years old or 20. Especially since relying on TV and film to give me quality at any given time is a fucking joke. And I think the people who insist all the best TV has happened in the last 10 years are as big of idiots as the ones who insist nothing made in the last 10 years counts.

Moose, I have NO objection to you voting for a show because you have no impression of the other. I do that all the time. I voted Smallville over 24 for that reason, even though I don't love Smallville. And I have NO desire to go watch some 24 to see if my vote was fair. There's a reason I haven't watched it thus far. I just don't have ANY opinion of 24. I just get the impression you actively dislike shows you are apathetic too. Which strikes me as weird. You say there's "something" about Lost you don't like. You commented that Heroes and House should both lose. Seems like your indifference becomes dislike when others are hyping the show up. That's where you lose me.

Maybe its just humor that gets misinterpreted because of our dynamic. I dunno.

I can imagine that's pretty cool. Still there's something to be said for watching a show from when the pilot first aired to the series finale down the line. I remember watching the pilot for Lost and being blown away by the plane crash and the mass hysteria of Jack running all over the beach saving people. It's the same thing with The Shield and The Sopranos, there's a feeling I got, I don't want to call it smugness but maybe a sense of being first before the bandwagon showed up.

I get that. There's also something to be said for the anticipation of watching it on first run. A cliffhanger or a season finale doesn't mean shit if all you have to do is move to the next track or put a new DVD in. Excitement and anticipation do build when you watch it first run. But there's other sides to it too. A bad season out of 5 takes a year to wear on you while its a week or two of my viewing. I pop in the next season and it regains its pace. You can see where 24 fans are kinda antsy right now because last season blew so bad and this season is important and delayed.

Plus that "smugness" you described just overhypes shows in my opinion. Just like nostalgia. Giev sshows some silly false push than it actually is in a vacuum.

I don't know. I watches Lost when it premiered and that first couple of weeks floored me. I just lost pace with it because I'm so bad at watching shows week to week and eventually caught up years later. I watched Sopranos from the get go and thoroughly enjoyed that first season or two. But I eventually fell off. I watched Shield this summer, 6 seasons at once. And I love it. Probably more than I would have if it had taken 6 or 7 years.

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Its just a big reason why I've seen so many shows and films from different eras. I rather start up on a new project than rewatch the series I've already seen. Or watch 1 hour or whatever and 1 hour of whatever.
