The idea is to create a third-party video game download service for a fictional 8th generation video game system... call it the Punstaton, or the SuperPuntendo, or the ShortBox5'1"... whatever. Doesn't matter.
All types of games, including arcade, PC, hand-held, mobile, and console are eligible THROUGH 7th generation. An explanation of the generations can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_console and a quick breakdown with examples of consoles is here:
1st: arcade, Odyssey, Pong, etc
2nd: Atari 2600, Intellivision, etc
3rd: NES, SEGA Master System, etc
4th: Genesis, SNES, Neo Geo, TurboGrafx16, etc
5th: Jaguar, 3DO, Saturn, Playstation, N64, etc
6th: Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, XBox, etc
7th: XBox 360, PS3, Wii, etc
20 round draft.
NO compilations. One title per pick. Nice try, jerky.
No requirements on quantity of games picked in regards to genre, generation, system, etc. Go nuts.
Games have to have been released in the U.S. as of the day the draft started.
Ports are NOT different titles. Once a title is drafted, it counts as every version of that title on every system. Just imagine that you're drafting the best version on the best platform.
Specifically different editions/sequels/etc of a game are valid picks. For example, "Face Puncher V" is a different title from "Face Puncher V: Championship Edition". If someone picks a game that was originally a console title, but has been updated for a handheld, PC, or newer generation system... it is technically the same title UNLESS you can show compelling evidence that the gameplay has been altered to a degree that the game is markedly different (new/completely different levels, upgraded features, etc... graphical improvements DO NOT count) from the original. HOWEVER... a port is a port is a port. "Face Puncher V" in the arcade is the same title as "Face Puncher V" on the Genesis, SNES, whatever.
Sports games are specific to year, not platform. "Bob Euker Baseball '08" and "Bob Euker Baseball '09" are two different games. But "Bob Euker Baseball '09" for XBox and "Bob Euker Baseball '09" for Wii are the same title. Ports aren't different titles.
Did I mention that ports don't count?
If any question arises as to the eligibility of a pick, it will be up to the person making the pick to provide evidence of eligibility -- it's a big Internet. There's plenty of resources.
8-hour clock. If someone's clock runs out, the next person is on the clock, and the person who missed their clock can pick at any time (but a missed pick is a missed pick. If I take a guy you wanted after your clock ran out, you're SOL).
The clock will be suspended from midnight ET to 8:00am ET. You can pick during that time if you're up, but the next guy's clock doesn't start until 8:00.
If someone makes an ineligible pick (i.e., takes a port of a game that has already been picked, takes a game that's already been picked, etc.), it's as if their clock ran out. The next person is up, and the guy who made the ineligible pick can repick at any time. (If this comes up, it'll be up to the guy who follows the ineligible pick whether he wants to wait for the pick to be fixed or move along.)
If you have back-to-back picks -- whether you're first or last in the order or you've traded for them -- you have 8 hours to make BOTH picks. Not 8 hours each, 8 hours total.
For the showdowns, we will do a ranking round where each person's lineup is in a stand alone poll and people just simply vote on which games (with no limit) from that line-up they would personally like to download. Whoever has the most votes is top ranked, and so on. In the case of ties, draft order will take precedence. After that, we go head-to-head to see who has the best service.
