crimsonmonkey.com/previews/first-look-abin-sur/ I like it a lot. Some people are kinda iffy on how he looks like he's skinned, but I think it's just an attempt to make him look more alien, rather than just a human with painted skin, and it works really well, especially with the fewer fingers.
I don't know. I see less "alien" and more "skinned dude" there but its not a deal breaker or anything.
Honestly, my only real problem is 22-year-old Blake Lively as Carol and 33-year-old Ryan Reynolds as Hal. I could have gone with both of them in their 20s or both in their 30s but with that obvious of an age difference it seems to screw up that story. I'd just like an older, more sophisticated Carol. I'm not buying Lively at all. She's a lovely young woman and for all I know a brilliant actor since I've never seen a single thing she's been in, but it just doesn't work for me.
Official Posters (actually 4 seperate pieces but I stuck the pairs together into how they seem to be intended:
The yellow in the Hammond one's probably hinting at him being connected to Parallax's role in the film. Sinestro doesn't look like a finished thing. I saw an interview where he said he was only just getting started filming stuff and it's all in studio because his scenes are entirely in space, so there might not be a finished shot of him as Sinestro, especially if there's going to be CGI involved for an enlarged head.
Not being at all familiar with green lanterns, other than the fact that every body has one on their Super Hero teams, should I be looking forward to this movie and should I do some ahead of time reading?
I think the costume looks good in some shots (on Sinestro, when Hal's flying, when he drops down and kicks Hector Hammond, the downwards shot of him standing next to a little kid pointing the ring up), and less so in others (when he reveals it to Thom Kalmaku mostly, though if it wasn't as bright and his head didn't look photoshopped on it would be better). The mask is the most iffy aspect of it. Okay with what we're shown of the story so far, though there's plenty not being showng (no Guardians, not much footage of Oa, nothing on Hal's dad). Reynolds seems to make a good cocky Hal and no complaints about Lively so far.
Consider me officially underwhelmed. And it's not because I'm unfamiliar with the character, either. I dunno what it is exactly. I had a similar (only tangential) knowledge of Iron Man before that initial trailer came out, but I was left feeling FAR more pumped about wanting to see the movie that when I first saw this trailer.
