What was a throw away line in the Wrestlefest 2010 Trading block has actually become a do-able idea

Proposed Guidelines.

Eco has volunteered to create the Wrestler list from the past 3 years of the draft.

The wrestlers are numbered 1-????

Byrne generates a draft list. Typical serpentine draft.

The lists are placed side by side and Wrestlers assigned to the appropriate Roster.

I'll volunteer to put them together and post rosters.

3 Weeks of trading. You wheel and deal to the best of your ability. If someone wants to get shafted in every trade, that's their peroggative.

No Add/drop Window. Who you have is who you have. If you pull off 2 for 1 trades, you will be required to DROP so you have 40. IF you end up with less than 40, you are stuck with less than 40

Create ONE CARD and ONE CARD ONLY.

Quick & Simple Showdown. 2 total rounds. We have had 20, 24 and 21 in each draft, so 4 or 5 groups of 4 or 5 , with the top vote getter in each group going to the finals.

Doesn't a 3-week trading period sort of negate the point? I was under the impression that we were trying to stick people with wrestlers they were unfamiliar with to see what they could do with them. If I've got 3 weeks to turn a bunch of indy guys into a bunch of WWF/E guys, isn't it just an exercise in trading?

I'd limit it to 3 trades over the course of a week. Give people some time to work out a few deals, but not enough to change the majority of their roster...maybe limit it to trading 5 people off the roster at most. And maybe another 5 add/drop.

I also say fuck doing it draft style. Get the people interested and completely randomize it. I'd help if need be, but what I mean is let's say we have 15 people doing it. Let's just take this years draft list, Ramu gets randomly slotted into one of those 15 rosters. Then we do Flair, and if he gets slotted into the same roster, so be it. If someone winds up with Flair, Hogan, Savage, Taker, Guerrero, Punk...that's just the luck of the draw. No need to make it a serpentine so everyone's on equal footing thing.

I'm in regardless of format, but here are my suggestions:
1. I like the serpentine draft format, only because I think it makes the assigning of wrestlers easy.
2. We have three years of good history, and some strange picks (Shane McMahon, first rounder X2; President Ramu, etc.) that could make this really interesting. I say we make no adjustments for guys like Sheamus...just run with the 3 year average.
3. Possible 32-person rosters? This leaves more options for drop-add (granted, so would a smaller draft).
4. Limit the number of moves. Either 5 moves, or 10 wrestler movements, etc. The # is less important, just some form of control.

Again, those are just suggestions. I guess what we need to nail down is what this is...is it an exercise in trading or booking? Because less moves allowed = more emphasis on booking; and vice-versa.

I'm much more in favor of this. Less overall effort involved and will be more of a test of people's ability to get creative with a card rather than creative with trading.

Probably in either way, though.

Totally bumping this to edit my idea and get serious about running it.

We Would Need Eco to update his "Big Board" and give me a top 500 or so based off draft positions.
Same idea, snake "Draft" Wrestlers to a roster based on their rankings. Rosters are then numbered 1-? Based on Round 1 picks and then random.org assigned to each player
Card 1 due one week after rosters are assigned.

• 32 Person roster
• No mandatory Arenas or announce teams
• Limit 12 People so the talent isn't stretched too thin
• No Add Drop, No Trades. The roster you get is the one you get.
• Every card Must use all 32 people in some capacity (Wrestler, Valet/Managers, Authority Figure, Guest Referee, whatever.)
• Single Elimination Bracket of 4 Multi-Card Matchups, then a 'Normal' Final 4. (3 Cards Max)

Thinking mid fall timeframe, Like Columbus Day give or take a few days.

Edited the list to 384. Eco's list has always been the gameplan for this, so I'm not trying to hijack his position here. I'm legitimately just interested to see the differences between my list and Eco's list because I know our tactics for compiling and ordering are different. I'd assume the top hundred or so names are about the same (not in the exact same order, though), but the mid- to lower-card area is where there might be some major contrast.

My spreadsheet has every PH and OO draft on it, but for this list, I went with your "past three years" idea to get all the names. I did include OO in the averaging, so that might have changed some of the numbers.

I don't think I remembered you having a big list or I would have definitely asked you. I am sure Eco would agree, there is always more than one way to skin a cat. If anyone has a big aggregate list based on the previous drafts, I'd be open to including them all. And you didn't have to limit it to 384. In fact, If I am averaging them together, I would want more names so we have a truer result (guy 385 on his list might be 303 on yours, make sure both get weighed accordingly.

Matte, how many drafts does yours include? I think Eco went back to PH draft 2 or 3 and forward, OO included, but I don't recall.

So a quick glance through the rosters that I posted show only 2 "Big" tag teams that could be used, The Road Warriors and America's Most Wanted. To me, that is the fun of this, figuring out new groups and teams to put together.

Would definitely want to include as many drafts as possible, just because. I haven't asked Eco yet, since there are still a couple drafts that need to go first, but I'll ask him for 500 names and Matte for 500 and anyone else who has or wants to compile info (Matte & Eco inclue OO & PH, maybe someone does just PH?) and I will average out whatever ones I get for the final ist.

Want to add that I'm most likely in for this. Seems quick and painless enough.


Also, my list excludes non-wrestlers (announcers like Jim Ross, managers like Sinister Minister, both like Paul Heyman), but includes most almost-shouldn't-count-as-wrestlers (Stacy Keibler, Stephanie McMahon) and people more known for their non-wrestling contributions (Gorilla Monsoon, Alfred Hayes). Seemed like the best way to go considering the layout of the whole thing.

I'd clearly be in, for any time after July 28th. My list does include non-wrestlers, but none are in the top 100 anyway (Paul Heyman at 121).

And for the sake of comparison, here are my top 300 (which doesn't include any data from this past draft). My method is pure rank order of "average relevant years" on OO/PH (so Tyler Black wasn't relevant until he was ROH champion, and his relevance today is calculated only from when Seth Rollins won the Tag Team Championships with Reigns). I also have other calculations from the same data (factor in trending up or down), but this is my core top 300.

On a quick comparison with Matte's list, I think I just have a recency bias (though we both have to just plug in people where they fall the first time, as he did with Strowman). At the top, I notice Daniel Bryan (#2 for me, #12 for Matte), Dean Ambrose (#16 for me, #118 for Matte), Dolph Ziggler (#17 for me, #93 for Matte). It gets more pronounced further in - see Finn Balor (#94 for me, #256 for Matte) or Charlotte (#93 for me, #262 for Matte), or Ricochet (#127 for me, #373 for Matte).

We're basically identical for guys I didn't make the adjustment for - for example, I probably should have adjusted Xavier Woods slightly at some point from TNA Consequences Creed days, but I didn't and so he is 246 for me and 248 for Matte.
