I just saw that Clerks II movie tonight based on you's guy's recommendation. Not sure how I felt about it as a whole, but certain parts were entertaining.
Spoilers~!!!!:
-The funny parts are definitely teh funny. -The lame parts are definitely teh lame. -The Jackson 5 musical scene? Really? I had to fast forward through that pile of crap and almost missed a major plot point. -I doubt either movie would have been half as funny without Jeff Anderson. I know Kevin Smith wrote the movies, but his delivery and smugness make those films. Same with Jason Lee in Mallrats and Chasing Amy. -Too many music montages. -Randall reminds of someone. Someone who shall remain nameless. -Certain parts of that movie involving nerddom and internet talk generated looks of giggling ridicule from my wife. Said looks resulted in a few back hands upside her dome*. -Man, Dantes fiance either looks like a young looking old lady or an old looking young lady. Can't tell which......... (I know that's KSmiths wife. I guess what Becky said about Dante and his fiance was what KSmith thinks about his situation.) -The Smashing Pumpkins suck. To me anyway. :
I loved the Jackson 5 scene. It was so random and weird but I loved it. Why? Oh, I don't know.
Maybe?
I think I'm stealing this idea from Zig but I think Clerks 2 is a film you love if you saw Clerks a decade ago and loved the film. Watched it multiple times and dug the characters. To see them come to such a good ending, to see it develop so well, and to see Smith basically put a good end to his ViewAskew world was great. I thought it was better than the 1st. I was sort of iffy on that idea at first but now that I own both on DVD and have viewed both multiple times I can say, yeah, 2 is the better one.
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.
Haven't seen the Original in a few years, and I loved it, (Hell, I can't decide between this and Holy Grail), and I loved Randall and Dante was cool in the first one. And I actually wasn't annoyed by Jay and Silent Bob in the first one. But I dunno know about the other characters in this one......
Randall - Still funny and great untill he turned pussy at the end. Dante - Either ten years or being in color did something wierd to the dude. Still was pretty cool. Still made dumb decisions. Still wanted to punch him out at times, even though he was mostly cool. Jay - Being sober has made him super lame. I'm not sure if it's his sobriety or mine. Silent Bob - Just super lame. Becky - You're telling someone who looks like that would be a manager at a Moobys in suburban Jersey? Elias (or whatever his name is) - Too easy. I thought KSmith was a better writer than that. Mrs. Hicks shirt wearing chick- Old young lady/young old lady. And what would she want with Dante? If her daddy would spend that kind of money on her to get a new house in Florida, she wouldn't be marrying some ugly dipshit like Dante. I wouldn't think, anyway. Cameos - Nice to see Suplee and Lee.
Still really funny in some parts, but as a whole, it had a few really lame parts. The first one never bogged down and annoyed me.
Man, Dantes fiance either looks like a young looking old lady or an old looking young lady. Can't tell which......... (I know that's KSmiths wife. I guess what Becky said about Dante and his fiance was what KSmith thinks about his situation.
Yeah, she's kinda bothersome. She was also in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back as someone who was supposed to be the same age as Elisha Dushku and Shannon Elizabeth...
Becky - You're telling someone who looks like that would be a manager at a Moobys in suburban Jersey?
Didn't they mention she was doing it for her uncle, who was unable to run the place because he was recovering from Cancer?
I thought it was great, and I like how it ends with a "maybe not such a happy ending" vibe.

Ok I'll bite... who?
Clerks II is a hilarious film if you're a fan of the View Askewniverse and have with been Smith since Clerks in '94. If you're coming into it casually, you're probably not going to like it as much.
"You were part Canadian as soon as your dick took up permanent residence in Moosejaw." - Hoodge
"and 29 Fingers, what the fuck is that shit? Who wrote a song about your anal world record set at the Stuckeys just outside of San Diego?" - Moose
"But yeah, I'd rather stick my dick in a dead guys asshole then watch Anchorman again." - Creeps
But I dunno know about the other characters in this one......
Randall - Still funny and great untill he turned pussy at the end.
I thought that scene was a great part of the movie. I am completely honest when I say that Anderson deserved a ton of praise for making that scene work. And I don't think it made Randall a pussy. It showed that he had actually matured and cared for something/someone enough to pour his heart out.
Dante - Either ten years or being in color did something wierd to the dude. Still was pretty cool. Still made dumb decisions. Still wanted to punch him out at times, even though he was mostly cool.
I thought he was a perfect extension of his character from the first movie - a little older, a little wiser, but still essentially the same old Dante.
Jay - Being sober has made him super lame. I'm not sure if it's his sobriety or mine.
WHAT? How could you not love the "tuck" scene.
Silent Bob - Just super lame.
I disagree. I have always thought Silent Bob was one of the better characters in the movie, just because of how he acts without saying anything.
Becky - You're telling someone who looks like that would be a manager at a Moobys in suburban Jersey?
You've obviously never been to or worked at any of the fast food joints I worked at growing up.
Elias (or whatever his name is) - Too easy. I thought KSmith was a better writer than that.
I liked Elias. I thought his exchange with the dude from Alias was great. And his scene describing "Pillow Pants" was great. Of course, a lot of that was Randall.
Mrs. Hicks shirt wearing chick- Old young lady/young old lady. And what would she want with Dante? If her daddy would spend that kind of money on her to get a new house in Florida, she wouldn't be marrying some ugly dipshit like Dante. I wouldn't think, anyway.
She definitely looked better as a redhead. See, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jersey Girl
Cameos - Nice to see Suplee and Lee.
How could you leave out the biggest pimp of them all?!?!? Ben Mother Fuckin' Affleck!
"Pillow Pants" was so insanely funny it made the Elias character. That and him masturbating in the corner to the donkey show. Yeah, a lot of it is Randall and J&SB reacting to him and antagonizing him, but still. He's a living, breathing joke and he played his role well.
And Yeah, I have no problem with the basic extension of Randall and Dante's characters to show some more maturity. Randall plain admitting he cares for the guy and Dante finally making some decent decisions. Worked for me and I think its that nice closing chapter. Jay and Silent Bob? Meh. I like the idea of Bob and Smith's portrayal but I've never loved the characters. Like Elias, they're living breathing jokes and means to get to insane situations.
And yes, hot chicks work EVERYWHERE. They're more plentiful in some jobs than others but overqualified manager for a suburban fast food place because she's dealing with family stuff? Never struck me as odd at all.
I have no defense for Smith's wife though. And I don't remember her from Strikes Back. She wasn't the Jewel Thief I didn't recognize, was she?
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.

She was the getaway driver, the only one NOT stealing the jewel.
It's only right for Dante and Randall to mature. Clerks was about life in your 20s, the sequel dealt with life in your 30s and chances are pretty good there's a big leap in maturity between the two.

Huh, how about that. I could never figure why the hell Smith cast 3 known (if B) actresses and then 1 utter nobody. Guess that explains that. She was better looking as a redhead.

I liked Randall's "taking it back" Porchmonkey stuff "That's the way people talked back then. Didn't mean they were racist... But my grandmother did refer to a broken bottle once as a "n****r knife." ...You know, come to think of it, my grandmother *was* kind of a racist."

I also loved the Jackson 5 scene. Shit makes me laugh everytime I see it.
Man, I thought Randall's spiel to Dante at the end made that character great. All this time, he's being this immature little dick and finally digs deep enough to tell his best friend that he doesn't want him to leave. It was really well played and Anderson nailed it.
I actually did like the movie. Sort of. KSmith is either hit or miss with me and this was on the hit side, I guess. His first three I really dug. I haven't cared for his stuff after Chasing Amy. Religion, which he decided to attack, is easy to pick on and doesn't seem too hard of a subject to embarrass. I wrote alot about this subject somewheres, but now I can't seem to find it. :
This is mostly to Puns post:
Randall doesn't seem to be the kind of guy to let his emotions carry him away like that, in jail nonetheless. In front of two guys (well, maybe just Jay) that would make fun of him for him forever. I guess that's just me.
Dante always kind of bugged me. But he also entertained me. I'm torn on that dude. I know that if I knew Dante in real life, there would be no question that I'd have nothing to do with him.
Sorry, I'm not a fan of dudes tucking their junk between their legs and looking hornily at the camera. Never thought it was funny, either. Jay is just annoying. Snootchy bootches and his hip shake and his "do you want to fuck me" dance from CII? Oddly enough, I liked both of them in Chasing Amy. One scene at the end for 7 minutes and they were mostly serious and brought something to the table. That was nice.
Silent Jay overacts without saying anything. A real eloquent kind of guy that only speaks at the end to illustrate a point to ponder. He's usually spot on, but then again, he wrote everything, it's his spot to be on. And when he didn't add anything to CII, I just knew that was a ruib at long time fans waiting to hear what he'd say and than throwing up an OMG! SWERVE! Just seemed kinda lame to me.
Usually the cute girls at fast food places are still HS chicks or college chicks or small town poor chicks. 30 something year old chicks that look like that? No fucking way. Not in Texas at least. And to help with her Uncles store? Wasn't it just to help pay bills? Did I miss the part where she HAD to work at Moobys? Maybe I missed it. But there would have something else worked out instead of Miss Model taking orders at a fast food place.
Elias was just KSmiths asinine religious character that KSmith could throw in there. I'm surprised he didn't just move from Iowa (or Texas) or something. Just too easy to make fun of. Pussy Troll (or whatever?) Anyone would believe that? Or if he just made it up so Randall would believe he HAD a girlfriend than anyone would believe he thought that was real? And of course Randall would never let up on him. Makes no sense and completely made me shake my head. Shame on KSmith for that.
No offense, Pun, but Ben Affleck sucks. (See, I can make fun of easy targets, too!)
I say this all with a happy face , and I realize I'm in the minority here, but damn but if that wasn't a step down from Clerks. I've watched all of the movies either when they came out or soon after, and he just keeps getting worse and worse and wrapped up in his smug little self. But this was better than Dogma, J&SBSB and Jersey Girl. Forgive me if I'm missing one.
But, in saying all of that, I still liked Clerks II
Gotta run.
Is it so hard to imagine? Is it so hard to believe? Something so outrageous, something so far-fetched, well how 'bout Adam and Eve?

She states in the movie that she's started working there because her uncle, the store owner/manager got sick, and she was filling in for him, and that he never got better so she's still there.
Dogma wasn't attacking Catholicism. It was Kevin Smith embracing it in his own way. He's certainly attacking certain types of Catholics, but not the religion itself.
Yeah, Becky working in the story was a really simple situation of someone taking a mediocre job at a stage of their life when they needed money and just ending up stuck there. I thought they did a good job of portraying that. "How the fuck did I end up here? I'm never getting out of this shit." Which is basically where Dante and Randall are as well except Dante IS getting out of it through marriage and Randall doesn't seem to give a shit. Becky is the very reasonable, very relatable middle ground of Dante's whining and Randall's apathy. She anchors us. Then of course Randall confesses that this freaks him out too and Dante ends up choosing to work in the bodega anyway so their pointless existences become something. Or something like that.
Creepy, go to Jersey. Hot fast food adults. I'm going to go see the Popeyes girl.

That's the point. He doesn't come off as that guy and then he gives in because he's pissed and upset. Dante is even visibly shaken by it because he didn't expect it either. It adds a new layer to the guy and makes him human and not a complete and utter douche.
Silent Jay overacts without saying anything.
In fairness, that's pretty much necessary. He's not saying anything so he's being very large about his mannerisms and movements to get them across. Don't get me wrong, Smith's not exactly a good actor, but if he doesn't overact that role you don't notice Bob until he speaks. I also don't think him not having an eloquent monologue was some sort of rub. It was just the "yeah, you're not getting it every time." Perfectly reasonable, especially since they didn't really need him.
Its personal tastes and all. But I really think Clerks 2 was Smith's sentimental tie up of his 1 dimensional characters. To do that he added dimensions and made them a bit sappy at the end. But it was the end of his story so it was forgivable. I was shocked at how much I loved that movie when I saw it but I went with a girl who immediately walked out saying "Why'd it get so gay at the end? That didn't seem to fit. I prefer the 1st."

Yup. It seemed that KSmith made this whole world for both Clerks movies and then decided to wrap it up by giving it a "happy ending". No problem with that, but it just seemed forced.
Maybe it didn't. I dunno. I spent almost 2 hours being entertained either way. I only nitpick at things that I like.
As for the fast food joints here in Texas, We have, how should I say this...... A lot of minorites. Most attractive white people don't work at menial jobs like those down here. Just sayin' is all.
Rosario Dawson's Puerto Rican, Afro-Cuban, and Native American. Irish too, but she's definitely identifies as Hispanic from what I've seen. And looks very clearly Puerto Rican. God I love Puerto Ricans..
Up here we have a LOT of professionals and college educated vieing for jobs. Entry level jobs are tough to get or very poor paying and anything higher tends to take experience that's hard to score. Waitressing, bartending, customer service, clerk jobs, etc really aren't bad places to make money for someone looking to get a foothold in some other business but needing a steady check. And they don't pay horribly presuming you're not paying mortgage on a home or supporting a family. Yeah, we get lots of immigrants, uneducated, and kids in fast food work and the other gigs but its really not that uncommon to have an educated person in a position of management.
Plus, the film was sent in Monmouth County, NJ a high income and very white area. In fact it was set in Leonardo, NJ which Wiki says is 95.85% white.
