I thought the Supergirl pose was actually pretty silly and over the top. I'd call it "gay" but that plays against her being quite hot. So I'll just say that rather than that final scene giving me geeky chills it made me laugh. Then again I knew full well Supergirl was in this season and that the girl who rescued Lex was her. So if I didn't maybe my geek alarm would have gone off when I saw "OMG, SUPERGIRL!"
Otherwise strong premiere. Enjoyed it. I can't say it beat the shit out of Heroes because it really has given me nothing to talk about. Heroes didn't leave me smiling or anything but at least it left me talking. I did not hate Bizarro though and I thought I would. Wish Manhunter could have fought or something but ok.
Since when does direct sunlight immediately heal any wound Clark suffers? He's suffered wounds before. Has he never gone out in the sun? Shouldn't he have noticed this? I mean, it makes all sorts of sense of Manhunter to clue him into a part of his physiology that he had no real reason to suspect before now. And then he could theoretically pull a rope-a-dope on Bizarro by dragging him into the middle of a field and waiting for the sun to wear him down while helping him to recover. But in stead suddenly a straight blast of light means that Clark can heal automatically, take Bizarro's blows like they're nothing, and one punch his ass damn near into orbit? Uh... ok.
I just wish Lana was dead. But Chloe's alive so I'll take it. Even if they just teased us for 6 months only to give her some bizarre power that we have no real concept of at this stage? She has the ability to heal with her tears and transfer the physical suffering to herself like the Green Mile guy? But then she dies and resurrects? Ok. I just kinda wish Clark could have had a scene where he was like "holy shit, I thought you were dead and I was destroyed by it." Nope. Just fucking Lana. The annoying, selfish, shallow, bitch.
I realize there's a logical story use for keeping Lois in the dark as well as possibly maintaining the classic Lois/Superman/Clark "triangle." And yet there were actually about 4 scenes in that episode where I said to myself "for fuck's sake, Clark, just tell Lois you have powers." She knows lots of people do, you don't even have to clue her into the alien thing. Just fucking make your life easier. Everyone else already knows anyway. You're like the worst guy in the world at keeping your identity secret. Mom, Chloe, Lex, Lionel, Lana, Oliver, Aquaman, Cyborg, Impulse. It will just make your life easier. Not to mention your cousin is about to show up and make life harder.
"Holy shit! Chloe looks dead! I need to get her the fuck out of here! Ummm... I can do that REAL fast. Excuse me."
I mean, did he really DRIVE Chloe to the hospital in order to protect his identity from Lois?
Chloe seems completely set that Clark has a greater purpose so she, Oliver, J'onn, and Kara better be pushing him there this season. That Clark basically went from the Justice League episode to chilling on the farm with his girl is so selfish and silly. I mean, I know he finally got to be with her and he's got the new cousin and spaceship crisis. But come on.
This season really needs to find some fucking direction and get going with. This slow burn of like 2 important scenes an episode after a basic Season 1 "Freak of the Week" hour is dull. Although I guess it IS slowly getting there with the Kara stuff, the crystal, and that alien thing (was that Brainiac returned?). But lets figure out what's going on already. A sentient alien metal is going to help Clark clone his hot mommy with the crystal he stole from his cousin so that he can go undergo his daddy's training exercises? Or something? Lets get to it already. Lana's a bitch. Chloe's not with Jimmy. She's devoted to Clark. Clark's a pussy. Lex is evil. We've been here already. NEXT!
EDIT: Now you know why I prefer to watch 5 seasons of a show over the course of 2 months. I am not a patient man. But shit, even Supernatural feels like its moving along faster. And that show drags.
i gotta say smallville, while not the worst, still just kinda stinks this season.
i feel like the show has gone one season too long. and knowing that they already signed on for an 8th just pisses me off. i feel like i'm on issue 9 of a 12 issue comic, and while the first 5 issues were really good it's really gone down hill and at this point i'm only still reading it because i've come so far i just want to see how it ends.
i just want to see how smallville ends at this point, cuz the ride itself ain't doin it anymore, and knowing the ride is gonna go on for even LONGER just sucks.
maybe if like lucky says they find some fucking focus this season can pick up, but watching's becoming a chore for me.
I'm guessing Season 7 is about him coming to terms and growing comfortable with all that he is and setting down the path and Season 8 is him becoming a hero. But, that was kinda what Season 6 was with him tracking down the phantoms and Green Arrow showing up and forming the League. You guys are right. It does seem like they were in end game there and he should have moved up to become Superman. But it feels like they've taken 2 steps back now and the only real reason they've given is because they had to tell more fucking Lana shit. Sure the cousin got introduced and he went and talked to his daddy and he wants to clone his mommy. But no idea if any of that means shit and it feels like shit we've already done before.
I mean geez, when do the Manhunter, Oliver, and Chloe kick Clark in the ass and tell him that every day he's sulking over Lana is another day people die and the world gets worse and he could have done something about it? Do we have to watch the guy taking years off after school to find himself? Really?
This is VERY disappointing. More so than a totally different take. For ONCE, Smallville is actually doing a pretty good likeness with the general costume, then when they have it nearly perfect, screw it up with the facepaint and hair. The designers on this show have a really weird thing about masks. They take them away from characters who are supposed to have them (Green Arrow, Flash), and give them to characters who aren't.
ok. what the fuck is going on with this show? does anyone here think season 8 has even the slightest chance of being decent? i am really against judging things before i see them, and especially before they're made, but things are not looking good for smallville season 8
lex is leaving. lana's leaving. the creators are leaving and now they're bringing doomsday in as a villian.
this show has moved so far from it's original concept it's barely recognizable from seasons 1 or 2. i don't think it should all be human drama stuff. i like the kryptonian aspect. but it's gone so far beyond clark learning about his powers and heritage. and the one aspect of the original concept that they just wont let go of, clark not flying, is the one that should've gone away 2 seasons ago. but at this point they're not doing smallville anymore. it's become a superman show without superman. it's in metropolis more often than in smallville. the great dynamic of clark and lex's trouble friendship was dropped for the more simple and superman-like clark vs lex's evil schemes. they've brought in brainiac. they've brought in supergirl. they've brought in other COSTUMED heroes (i loved the justice league episode, but how great/cool it was and whether it was appropriate for the show are 2 different arguements). and now they're bringing in doomsday.
can they leave some of The Adventures of Superman for when he actually is superman? are they really that incapable of thinking of cool stories involving the events that LEAD to him being superman? i mean, at this point it really is just time to make him superman.
looks like the legion of super-heroes is coming to smallville, and the episode's gonna be written by geoff johns!
now, i've only recently become a legion fan, with the cartoon, lightning saga, and excellent storyline recently in action comics, but i've grown quite fond of them in that time. it's nice to see something cool (and historically accurate to superman) showing up in this series. i'm very exicted about this.
the question is will the legion mention superman by name?
I find it so hard to get up for Smallville now. I've never really read the Legion although I understand their importance, especially to Clark. And I love Johns and really do trust him. I just can't get myself up for what I can only imagine will be emo Clark in a state of depression over his girlfriend while more people his age with less power than him show up and remind him that SOME people are off being heroes while he's a whiny farmer.
Of course with Johns in there I almost have to believe that they WILL mention Superman and that this will be what FINALLY kicks Clark in the ass about what he should be doing with himself. But with Lex, Lionel, his dad's death, Jor El, Christopher Reeves, Chloe, Kara, Lois, Oliver, and the League unable to make him grow up yet its just so easy to picture the Legion showing up to tell him he'll be a great hero, us getting some geek moment of him with the S shield or something, and then back to the same crap a week later.
