In this world of MP3's, downloading, etc., etc. I thought of this scenario today - A government agency abducts you tomorrow and says you are going to live the rest of your life on a deserted island and can only bring five actual albums with you to listen to for the rest of your life. Which ones would they be and why?
I'll start -
1. Radiohead - OK Computer (This CD blew my mind from the get-go but I liked it more and more as time went on. What put it over the top as one of my can't-live-without CDs was when I was flying back from an awesome week-long trip to London and decided to check out the music selection on the plane. One of the CDs they had? OK Computer. Listening to that CD with thoughts of my trip fresh in my head was unbelievable and solidified it for me)
2. The Cure - Disintegration (That's right, two CDs in a row from across the pond! I originally got into this CD as a teenager during my dark, rebellious phase. I hung out with Goths, wore black Danzig t-shirts, grew my hair out, etc. However, the absolute beauty of this CD has stuck with me through today. This is The Cure at their best. I would name a favorite song off of it but I can't. The whole masterpiece from start to finish is my favorite song)
3. Avenged Sevenfold - City Of Evil (Opinions on this band vary far and wide but they are probably my favorite band at the moment and this CD is sheer metal perfection. Some say it's too poppy to be metal. I say the vocal harmonies, guitar shredding, double-bass pounding sound is unbelievable)
4. Alice In Chains - Facelift (Every CD they released is beyond awesome but if I had to choose my one favorite, it would be "Facelift." I loved Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana but this CD has not left my car since I bought it years ago)
5. Metallica - Master Of Puppets (I'm torn on this one because I'm relatively tired of it from listening to it 1,000's of times over the years, but I don't think I'd be able to live with myself if I didn't bring it. This was pretty much the album that got me into metal. 'Nuff said)
Narrowly missing the cut was Bjork. However, as time's gone on, there are songs on each of her albums that I love and ones that I can live without. If I could put all my favorite Bjork songs on one CD, she probably would've had a spot here.
How about my fellow music fanatics? I'm interested to see the responses.
