All right, for those of you who didn’t see the concept in the Next Showdown thread, here’s the deal: draft a wrestling megacard consisting of matches that have taken place on PPV/closed circuit.
The catch is that you can only draft a wrestler one time for your card. For example, if you take the classic Summerslam ’95 Diesel/King Mabel main event with the #1 overall pick, you would be barred from taking the epic Mark Henry/Viscera match from No Way Out 2000. However, if I wanted, I could take the Henry/Viscera match with the #2 pick. The draft isn’t limited to one match per wrestler – just each drafter’s card. So everyone could - and SHOULD - have a Ric Flair match on their supercard; they just can't have more than one. (Also, run-in’s don’t count as participating – the wrestler must be one of the combatants in the match.)
Rules for debate (defaults are in bold):
Match Quantity: 10, 8, 12, 15?
Match Eligibility: Any match aired on PPV or closed circuit, those matches PLUS Saturday Night’s Main Event and Clash of the Champions, or all of those plus any televised match?
Rematch Clause: Once a given matchup of wrestlers is drafted, any other match featuring the exact combination is barred from being picked by any other drafter. For example, if you take Orton/HHH from Unforgiven ’04, any other Orton/HHH match (WrestleMania, Rumble ’04, etc.) would be ineligible to be drafted by anyone else. BUT… the Orton/HHH/Cena triple threat match from WrestleMania would still be eligible. Make sense? OR… should we allow all 40 drafters to have their own HHH/HBK match?
Title Clause: Each card shall be permitted only one defense of a given title. Example, if I draft the Hogan/Nash WCW Title match from Road Wild ’99, I can’t then take the triple cage Jarrett/DDP/Arquette match from Slamboree 2000. But someone else could take it or the Hogan/Butcher Starrcade ’94 WCW Title match. OR… should we allow a drafter to select 10 Hardcore title matches?
OOWF: Not permitted, not for debate. All matches must have featured real people on real shows.
Draft Start Date: Monday, November 8, or later?
Draft Time Limit: 8 hour limit with frozen clock from 10pm til 8am eastern time, 4 hour clock after one missed clock, autoskip after two missed clocks. (Unless I hear a good argument otherwise, I’m keeping the frozen overnight clock because I found it ridiculous that I was on autoskip in the music draft due to missing clocks while I was sleeping when I didn’t miss any other clock by more than an hour or so.)
Showdown: I’m totally open for discussion on this one. Standard tournament? Vote for 2 each out of multiple pods, vote 1 out of the final grouping mini-tournament? Rank the cards for points? There’s been some good argument against the drawn out tournaments – should we go with something else?
Typical draft caveats: Back to backs count as one clock, ineligible pick and the draft keeps moving, Gator rule (Abe Lincoln is ineligible), I have final say on match eligibility, etc.
