I am absolutely dumbfounded. Baffled. Perplexed. I am getting the sense that it's been over 10 years since most of you have seen the movie. Dev's is mostly just god-awful for the roles they're slotted into.

Westley
This is a wash, for me. Both Reynolds and Evans bring the necessary quick-wit sarcasm abilities to the table.

Buttercup
Connelly over Gellar in a fucking landslide. Gellar hasn't been relevant in 10 years, and she wasn't even that good an actress then. I cringe at the thought of her attempting a British accent. And she's fugly.

Inigo Montoya
I like Bernard enough, but he's just too serious for the role. When you drafted him I was expecting him to be your Rugen.

Fezzik
Lesnar isn't an awful choice, but he's only 6'2". Big guy, sure, but not really a "giant". And Singh/Khali at least has some comedic incoherence about him.

Vizini
I like Dinklage fine, and I'm completely happy with your casting of him. But c'mon, he's up against Pesci in the head-to-head matchup.

Prince Humperdink
Hugo Weaving vs. Nathan Fillion. I can actually almost give you the edge, here. Almost. And that's based entirely on Dr. Horrible. I recognize Weaving's relative unknown comedic prowess, but he WAS in the original version of Too Wong Foo.

Count Rugen
I'll admit to only really knowing Kane from "Just Married". Sutherland is still a head-and-shoulders better actor and has proven on "24" that he can be a very convincing torturer.

The Albino
Farley vs. Black. Pretty much a wash, as well, but I think Black would make the faces better.

The Impressive Clergyman
Love Stephen Fry. I really do. And I think he'd be decent in the role. But c'mon, for essentially a cameo of a funny-talking priest, why not go with the Prince of Darkness for the extra irony?

Miracle Max & Valerie
Here is where I have a MAJOR issue. Nealon & Fey would be nearly as awful in these roles as the Cusacks would be weird. And am I really the only one who thinks the Martin/Ball pairing would be a thousand kinds of awesome?

Grandfather & Grandson
Olmos? Really? No objections to Rico, but Olmos? His sarcasm level isn't on the same level as Duvall's. And I know Culkin doesn't have the best rep, but he also used to be very capable in the sarcasm department.


OK, so maybe my saying "mostly God-awful" was a bit of an exaggeration, but when it misses, it misses BIG.

A lot of your issues really seem to come down to personal preference. I think Jennifer Connelly is as ugly as sin. And never seen her in a role that interested me. Lesnar might might have the height but he's a fucking brick wall and looks more intimidating Khali. Pesci is a fucking joke and I think he's been overrated in every movie that people seem to love him in. I think the only time I liked him was My Cousin Vinny and I just don't think he has the subtlety to play Vizini. Kiefer's 4'10 or something and has no intimidation factor to play Rugen. After that I didn't really care about the roles since they get maybe 15 minutes total of screen time. I have no idea why Nealon and Fey would be awful since it's a 5 minute role and both are very good comedic actors. Olmos is reading a story, he's got a great voice...don't need much more.


MTA: Forgot 2. FUCK JACK BLACK. He's an untalented hack. And Colin Farrell is probably the worst actor between the 2 casts. I'd take Gellar doing a British accent over Farrell doing anything.

Both are very nearly a wash, both have the comedic chops to pull it off. But no way can I ever picture Reynolds doing the "To the Pain" speech at the end. Slight Advantage Dev

Buttercup
Both are hot (You're both idiots), Connelly's a better actress, even I as a Whedon/Gellar fanyboy can admit that, but Gellar's better for the role. Slight Advantage Dev.

Inigo
Farrell is my least favorite out of Gator's cast. Not a chance in fucking hell he convincingly plays Inigo. HUGE advantage Dev.

Fezzik
Who gives a shit how tall Brock is? He's a perfect fit as hired muscle, plus Singh can't move convincingly in the ring, how the hell is he going to do it during a full movie shoot? Dev in a rout.

Vizini
Dinklage is great, but Pesci is a perfect fit and I'm pissed as hell I didn't think of him. Advantage Gator

Humperdink
Weaving is awesome, but I can't go against Fillion here. Slight advantage Dev

Rugen
No one, no one is a bigger Sutherland fan than I am, but I just can't see him playing this role. Breaks my heart, but advantage Dev

Nope. I'm a pretty big fan of Steve Martin in most things.

To throw in my own (apparently unshared) opinion:

Westley: Total push.

Buttercup: Connelly is definitely far more beautiful, but I'm not completely sold on her acting. Unfortunately I can say the same for Gellar, so Connelly wins out...ugh...on the superficiality.

Inigo: I have no idea who Carlos Bernard is.

Fezzik: Gotta agree with Gator's sentiment; Brock's BIG and probably would end up acting better, but Fezzik is a giant. Meaning height. And Khali's voice is kinda like Andre's with an Indian accent.

Vizini: It's Joe Pesci.

Humperdink: I'm not as big a fan of Fillion as most are, but then I've never watched Dr. Horrible. So I don't really have a pillar to stand on for an argument. But he would have to be real damn good to outshine Hugo Weaving.

Rugen: I have no idea who Christian Kane is.

Albino: Another push. They're basically the same except Jack Black can play music too.

Clergyman: Yeah Ozzy would suck horribly. This is a huge win for Fry.

Max/Valerie: Already discussed, but Steve Martin is awesome and it'd be interesting to see him playing off of Lucille Ball. Now I like Kevin Nealon, but he's no Steve Martin. And Tina Fey is possibly the most overrated "comedic talent" in the past decade.

Grandfather/Son: Duvall/EJO is another push for me. So it comes down to the kids, and Macaulay was basically the 90s Fred Savage minus a show.

Yeah, lost in the shuffle here is a very solid card on Shark's part. Aside from Leo & Ice Cube, I really like the casting, and I had a lot of those people on my own short lists.

I just can't see Leo pulling off the quick-wit comedic bits of Westley's character.
