Saturday Night Live Ultimate Cast Draft
Pick your ultimate Saturday Night Live cast, host and musical guest through a 12 round snake draft.
Registration
Some people in the Next Showdown thread expressed interest in doing this, but I don’t want hold them to that. Please respond with “IN” or otherwise express that you want to participate in this draft with a post to this thread. We are ideally looking for 12 participants, which would lead to two preliminary voting rounds of one-on-one matchups and a triple threat final for voting. Dates for starting and such will be set after we get enough people signed up. As of right now I would like to get started sometime around Oct. 1. A random draft order will be set once everyone is signed up. Feel free to ask me any questions or make any comments in this thread. We could also go with eight teams or 10.
Roster Rules
Your roster must contain 10 cast members, one host and one musical guest drafted in any order.
Cast member slots are for anyone who was a main cast member or featured player on the show throughout its history. There are no requirements for drafting a certain number of women, minorities, members from a certain time frame, etc.
A list of all eligible cast members is here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_Live_cast_members. As of last season there 142. No new cast members added for the coming season will be eligible.
You must designate at least one, but no more than two, cast members to be your Weekend Update anchor. Hosts and musical guests cannot be anchors. An anchor only has to be a cast member and need not have ever served as a weekend update anchor for real on the show. You do not need to designate your anchor or anchors at the time you draft them, but you can. Anchors need finalized when rosters are finalized.
Hosts must have officially hosted SNL at least once during the program’s history. Former cast members, even if they hosted before or after being a cast member, are not eligible to fill a host slot or musical guest slot. Cast members can be in cast member slots only. You get one host and cannot draft a duo even if they hosted together.
Musical guests must have officially been a musical guest on SNL at least once in the program’s history. Musical guests who served as hosts can be drafted as hosts, and vice versa, but one person cannot fill both slots, it must be two separate people. Bands and duos who appeared together as musical guests can be drafted as a single unit, but if an individual in that band or duo is drafted as an individual host or musical guest then their band or duo is off the board. Likewise, if a band or duo is drafted that features an individual host or musical guest that person cannot be drafted to fill those slots by themselves and would also be off the board.
You can get a list of eligible musical guests and hosts here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Saturday_Night_Live_guests. Anyone on those lists marked as having had a cameo only cannot be drafted into any position.
Your post would consist of number of your pick, name, photo of person, who is picking next and optional explanation on why you picked that person including any specific characters, sketches, talents or whatever else you want to mention they bring to the table. You should also note a host or musical guest pick if that is who it is and update anchor, which you can always change later.
Beware namedrops. Do not mention the name of another eligible cast member, host or musical guest if they have yet to be picked. Also do not include any not yet picked people in photos or videos you post.
Add/Drop
After the last person picks for the draft, a 48-hour add/drop period will be observed. At the end of that period I will post finalized lists, noting Weekend Update anchor, host, musical guest. You will have 24 hours to get any changes due to typos, errors, or having a voided roster for any reason to me before we have the first match up round. The first match up round will most likely start at 8 p.m. est the following day after the correction period closes. Add/drop posts will be in the main draft thread.
Match-Ups
Everyone will be paired off based on the random draft order (1 against 2, 3 against 4, etc.). Voting will be up for 48 hours. Voting will close at that time and the next round of voting will open at 8 p.m. est the next day. Vote for the cast you like best. There will be no add/drop in between rounds.
Trades
Picks or talents can be traded for picks or talent during the draft or during the add/drop period. Trades can be posted in the main draft thread. Both parties must post that they agreed to the trade and I must verify before the trade is official. Please also send me a message of a trade when you broker one. Once all slots are filled, your draft is over until the add/drop period. If you have any slots left to fill after the draft is over, you must do so through the add/drop period.
Clocks
Draft clocks will be continual without any overnight suspensions. Clocks are 8 hours. If you miss one clock, there is no penalty. You miss two clocks and you’re on four hour clocks for the rest of the draft. Miss three clocks and you’re on auto-skip for the rest of the draft. Once everyone is signed up I will set an official time and date for the clocks to start, but drafting can begin as soon as the official draft thread with the draft order is posted with no clocks being observed.
