Also, I put Ocarina in the other day and had a fun little time with it. Although I forgot that you often have to start all the way back in the forest once you turn the game off (depending on when you save). I've started the game a handful of times since I beat it 10 years ago but never really tried to beat it again. Maybe I will this time.
Yeah, as much as I love the Zelda franchise and even though much of that love comes from the things that this original version did, I can't in good conscience vote it above SMW, particularly when I just compare the two games to each other and try not take into account the other games in either franchise. It's also tough because we're really comparing apples to warm apple pie here as one was NES and the other SNES.
And I agree with Lucky that SMW vs. Ocarina is definitely the better matchup, which we certainly have the possibility of seeing in the finals. Honestly this version of Zelda would be much better suited to be competing against Super Mario Bros. But since it's not, Super Mario World wins this.
I went around the world (living room) without losing once with Zangief once. It was actually impressive, there were some good kids in that room. If you could catch anyone coming out of the air with his spinning clothesline you more or less had them at your mercy when they got up.
