If nobody else wants to do it, I'm down for running the next wrestling one, as well, whether it's after the hot chicks or some other showdown we run. I'm guessing Best Tag Team is the natural follow up. If not that, then best match.
This is also a discussion for the other generic thread we have in the main showdown board, so with this being done, I'm gonna lock this puppy up.
Second toughest draw of the tournament for me behind only Arn/Tully vs. the Midnights.
I voted E&C.
For just under two years, they were the best tag team in the world. They could talk, they could be chickenshits, they could be smarmy heels, and they could work their asses off. Of the great trifecta of WWF teams at the time, the Duds were the brawling tough guys, the Hardy boys were the pretty boy high spot guys, but without E&C, there's no glue to hold them together. They all made each other stars, but E&C just had that extra "it" to them and carried the tag team renaissance of 2000. Hell, E&C made Too Cool legit threats at one point.
Seriously, Mike. This idea of trying to move them to different eras and then seeing how they fit is pretty silly. So what if the Hardys wouldn't have worked 10 years earlier? Rock would have been fucked 20 years earlier because of racists, or something. Big Show would have been a legend and noone would know Andre's name if they flipped places. It might be fun exercise to try and divorce the popularity from the skill but what does it actually prove? I did the Andre/Show thing but only to point out how being "1st" made him better than he was. But you're basically arguing that if you take away Hardyz' big matches, big moves, greatest skills, and best opponents they might not get over. Ok. As Thai said, if you bring the LOD along now their face paint is laughed at, they're booked more even, they don't get to come out to Iron Man, and they get broken up a year in. And much of wrestling probably laughs at the hosses delivering nonsensical promos in ridiculous voices wearing ridiculous getups that look like a film from 30 years ago.
I think the Midnights got the better of Blanchard/Anderson in WCW, but that's only because the latter was headed to the dreaded "North." I still think the Midnights would have the edge with better double-team moves and Cornette > Hennen. Now if it were JJ Dillon with Blachard/Anderson...
Fabulous Freebirds (Michael "P.S." Hayes, Terry Gordy, and Buddy Roberts) vs the Von Erichs (David, Kerry, and Erich) - World Class Championship Wrestling
There's a near Raw-ian five minutes of introduction and pre-match goings on, but the match is worth it. To explain, just in case, Buddy Roberts is wearing boxing headgear to hide his shame after losing his hair to Iceman King Parsons. Luckily Parsons was not blinded by the hair removal cream like the last black guy to cross the Freebirds path while they had chemicals in their possession.
To explain further, that thing those six guys are doing, that's called "selling". Wrestlers not in the X-Division do that sometimes. Oh yeah, I went there.!
At a house show while he was in WWF we (wife, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law) were sitting in the front row. The crowd was really booing the shit out of the Duds. Bubba turns around and looks right at mny mother-in-law and yells "Shut the fuck up, you stupid bitch." Of course it wasn't her doing anything. We all laughed hysterically and she was a tad freaked out. Good times.
I'm glad the Steiners are winning because it allows me to vote for LAX with no guilt. Because really, I like LAX more. I totally get the Steiners' worth. And I liked them once upon a time and really do have them as one of the greatest. I just never enjoyed them as much as I have LAX. Especially as characters where I thought the Steiners were very lacking and bland. I never once in my life marked out for the Steiners.
I agree with the above statements, but I wasn't going to say them. Thank you, Lucky.
