I don't really have a problem saying guys like Taker, Austin, and HHH are better than Sting. The point is Sting is up in that legend conversation. He's probably low on the list of legends but he's there. Joe doesn't "deserve" to knock him off but if he had at least it would have been someone who is considered one of the best today who stands a chance of becoming a legend. But a good wrestler who was far surpassed by his peers in ring ability and is remembered very fondly because of a tragic death? Owen just doesn't sit right with me beating Sting.
And people liked Owen and didn't like Sting. I get that. I'm not insulting opinions. I'm just saying, it will never sit right with me because Sting isn't getting the basic acknowledgment I think he deserves. And because I really do think Owen is WAY overrated because he (a) died at his peak and (b) was one of the best wrestlers of an underwhelming wrestling company when equal or likely better wrestlers like Benoit, Guerrero, Malenko, Rey, Ultimo Dragon, Jericho, the luchadores, and others were tearing up the WCW under and midcard. But the voters were largely WWF fans and that influenced them. And that makes sense and is cool, but it seems like its why a WWF midcarder beats a WCW icon who never stepped foot in Vince's company.
And its not "dumb" wins that leads these showdowns to die down. Its that the more guys you eliminate the less people are invested. Many showdowns when they got to the Final Four have had nothing I really cared about. That's simply gonna happen just like when the NCAA tournament gets down to 8 or 4 teams the chances that there is one you really care about goes down.
Plus, by the time you get here all the arguments have been made. We're just rehashing old ones or adjusting the same ones. But by this point everyone knows Flair and everyone knows Jericho and you're gonna vote for who you vote for.
I like Jericho a lot but he doesn't "deserve" to be in the same conversation as Flair or up here either. But I'm not sure Angle did either. So meh. And I'm almost positive I think the idea of someone "deserving" something is retarded and arrogant.
