I've discussed this with my deputy commissioner Hodgey, and we both agreed that we could all use a change next season. So the next official Puns House Hockey League will 1) start fresh with a new draft, 2) have official rules to peruse, and 3) have a buy-in to make it a pay league. I will need guidance on how the pay stuff works, but we'll keep it cheap.
Anyway, just wanted to give a heads up on our plans. Hope to see everyone back next season!
UPDATE #2
Seeing as how we've decided to start anew, I figure it'd be a good time to address a few rule changes/clarifications/reminders. Co-commissioner Hodgey and I have discussed the following and agree that they will be good for the competitiveness of the league:
Keepers
Prizes
Rosters
Like last season, we've decreased the number of D and added an extra Utility slot. The rosters will look like this:
2 C
2 RW
2 LW
3 D
2 UTL
2 G
6 BN
There are also 2 IR slots.
Scoring
There are 11 scoring categories. 7 for skaters, 4 for goalies:
Goals, Assists, Hits, +/-, Blocked Shots, PIMs, Power Play Points, SV%, GAA, Wins, and Shut Outs.
Draft
Trades
Playoffs
Divisions

UPDATE #2
Seeing as how we've decided to start anew, I figure it'd be a good time to address a few rule changes/clarifications/reminders. Co-commissioner Hodgey and I have discussed the following and agree that they will be good for the competitiveness of the league:
Keepers
- You do not have to keep any players if you do not want to.
- The maximum number of players you can keep is still 5, one from each of the following categories:
- Center
- Left wing
- Right wing
- Defenseman
- Goalie - You may not keep any player picked within the first three rounds of the draft, NOR any player that has been kept INTO the first three rounds.
- The keeper cost is being raised from 1 slot per year to 2 slots pre year. (i.e. a 13th rounder drafted in 2013 will be an 11th rounder kept in 2014)
Prizes
- The winner of the league can no longer keep a player drafted within the first three rounds.
- Prize money will be distributed as follows: $80 first place. $30 for second. Third place gets their $10 investment back.
Rosters
Like last season, we've decreased the number of D and added an extra Utility slot. The rosters will look like this:
2 C
2 RW
2 LW
3 D
2 UTL
2 G
6 BN

Scoring
There are 11 scoring categories. 7 for skaters, 4 for goalies:
Goals, Assists, Hits, +/-, Blocked Shots, PIMs, Power Play Points, SV%, GAA, Wins, and Shut Outs.
Draft
- Standard, 19 round, snaking draft.
- 8 hour Draft clock.
- Leave picks with people if you don't think you're gonna make your clock.
- If you have two or more picks in a row, they are all on the same clock.
- Clock is suspended from 12midnight to 8am EST.
Trades
- All trades, even if submitted through ESPN, should be posted on these boards in a trade thread (to be created later).
- Both parties must acknowledge the trade and it must be approved by either Hodgey or myself.
- Be fair. There's no reason for Hodge or me to deny a trade unless it's blatantly unbalanced.
- Players, as well as draft picks, may be traded. You may not trade additional keeper slots, money, "future considerations", bags of pucks, or sexual favors (sorry Solly.)
- If a trade leaves an owner with fewer than necessary draft picks, additional picks will be made up after the 19th round of the draft, in draft order.
Playoffs
- 8 (out of 12) teams make the playoffs which start in week 23.
- Teams are seeded within their divisions. Winners of the Bettman and Cherry division brackets play in week 25 to determine a champion.
- I can't tell if ESPN sets up a consolation bracket automatically, but if it does, winner of the consolation bracket will win 1st pick in the following season's draft. If not, final seeding will determine next year's draft order.
Divisions
- There are 2 divisions now, "Bettman" and "Cherry" (we can change the names every season to keep things fun)
- Divisions will be split up based on the randomized draft order. Odd numbered teams will go into "Bettman" and even numbered into "Cherry."
- Realignment may be necessary at some point and will be addressed in the future.
- Tiebreakers for playoff seeding will be determined by your intra division record.
