Synopsis:
Legendary television producer Steven Bochco introduces you to the next great crime drama. Set in 1980 New Jersey and loosely based on the Traveling Wilbury's song "Tweeter and the Monkey Man".
In the pilot we learn that Captain Bradley and his two most trusted veteran detectives Holliday and Santos have been hot on the trail of Demetrius and his operation for years. But every time they get close, District Attorney Summers shuts them down claiming they have insufficent evidence. One night after his shift Detective Holliday is shot outside his home by Mario. Knowing who did it but unable to prove it, Captain Bradley has his best undercover officer infiltrate Demetrius's crew. For the next 11 episodes Kevin slowly gains Demetrius's trust and gathers evidence. In episode 13 (The finale) the shit really hits the fan. Kevin gets Demetrius to admit on tape that he ordered Detective Holliday's death. Kevin, Captain Bradley and Detective Santos take the tape to the District Attorney. Her back to the wall, she reluctantly agrees to issue an arrest warrant. As soon as the cops leave her office, Rachel calls Demetrius and tips him off. Furious over being betrayed and coked out of his mind, Demetrius heads over to Kevin's house where he brutally rapes and kills Alyson. Knowing that they have to get out of town in a hurry Demetrius, Charlie and Mario drive over to the Lion's Den to pick up Janet. Janet without hesitation shoots her husband in cold blood and then empties his safe. Kevin arrives home, sees his wife's dead body and then drives off in a rage. He arrives at the Lion's Den and sees Demetrius, Janet, Charlie and Mario just leaving. A high speed chase ensues. Mario crashes and is killed instantly while Demetrius, Janet and Charlie are all incapacitated. Kevin puts his gun to Demetrius's head and is about to pull the trigger when Eli puts his hand on his shoulder. Eli talks him out of it, saying "If you pull that trigger, then son we're no better than they are." Kevin reluctantly agrees and officers take them into custody.
Spencer and Locke
Meet Detective Locke, as he returns to the bleak urban neighborhood of his youth to investigate the brutal murder of his childhood sweetheart turned schoolteacher Sophie Jenkins. As Locke is forced to confront memories of his abusive upbringing, he turns to his childhood friend — a giant talking panther named Spencer — to help crack the case. Whether Spencer is imaginary or not, that’s another story.
His investigation will lead him through familiar faces from his past, such as his bully Stanley, his baby sitter Ramona, and his once hated teacher, now principal of the school Miss Scabtree.
But when a vicious crime syndicate led by Locke’s father, Augustus, kidnaps Sophie’s young daughter, Hero, Spencer and Locke must overcome overwhelming odds as well as their own traumatic pasts in order to learn the truth about Sophie’s death
