Man, I have this conversation with my wife all the time. She finds it mystifying how adamant I am about the condiments that should go on a hot dog. Mustard and relish, maybe some onions. That's it. Now, don't get me wrong, if I'm at a hot dog stand, I'll get something more complicated, like a Chicago Dog, with the pickle and the banana pepper. But ketchup does not belong at the same table as a hot dog.

(And mayo? Damn, I've never even heard of that before. That's vile, court.)

But as much as ketchup doesn't belong on a hot dog, it's even worse on a corn dog. At least with a hot dog it makes sense--you need something sweet to counteract the mustard. That something should be relish, but I guess it takes all kinds. But on a corn dog, the breading is the "sweet." There is no place on a corn dog for any condiment but mustard.

Here in LA, there are these hot dog carts that you see after concerts and sporting events that have bacon-wrapped hot dogs with grilled onions, green peppers, and if you so choose, your choice of mustard, ketchup, and or mayo.

Also in LA is Pink's Hot Dog where you can get two hot dog sausages with chili, cheese, onions, and pastrami wrapped in a tortilla. That's a heart attack waiting to happen, but oh boy is it good.

I discovered in Brazil, that they don't even give you mustard for your dog. Just ketchup and mayo, and sometimes this crispy fried breading stuff.

Mayo on a hot dog is nasty to me, too.

Personally, my perfect hot dog is mustard (preferably deli mustard), relish, and onions. I sometimes put ketchup on half of the dog.

I think a mustard-ketchup/swirl for a corn dog is ok.

Serg, you're fucking crazy. I've met crazy people like you so you're not alone, but you're fucking crazy. Ketchup is perfectly fine. I can't for one second figure why some folks are so adamant about that one. I mean I HATE peppers, don't like onions, and never developed a taste for relish but I'm fine with their presence. But the anti-ketchup crowd act like you're pouring Heinz on a porterhouse. Its a fucking hot dog.

Unless we're talking about mayo. Because that's just disgusting. It amazes me that people will put mayo on so many things. Then again, I'm still shocked that Burger King will put mustard on my burger and expect me to like it.

Ketchup, mustard, kraut, and maybe relish if you so wish. I could live with tossing some onions on there too, but not a lot. And by then its just a mess of flavors. That's my hotdog. But forced to pick only a single condiment? I'll just say screw my colon and go with chili.

i don't know why i go with yellow. for me, it's golden brown in just about every mustard situation, with a very strong exception for hot dogs and pretzels. those 2 things and i say it's yellow all the way.
