The Addams family has been part of a secret pact involving arranged marriages to broker peace between the world of mortals and world of witches for centuries. The latest generation has Gomez Addams married to the witch Samantha. They have three children: Buffy, 16, Sabrina, 14, and Eddie, 8.
Frequently dropping by the home is Samantha’s half-sister, a genie named Jeannie, Gomez’s sister Elvira and her husband, Ash Williams. Ash is also a shop teacher and football coach at the girls’ high school.
Buffy is suspicious that their new principal, Barnabas Collins, is a vampire. Ash reveals to her that his family is a long line of monster hunters and he promises to show her their ways, if she doesn’t tell her parents.
Sabrina had magic power, like her mother, manifest as she hit puberty. She wants to keep it a secret from her parents, because she knows she’ll be sent away to a boarding school for witches. The only one who knows she’s developing magic powers is the family’s kindly butler, Mr. Belvedere.
Samantha knew that Gomez wanted a boy and tried to use magic to guarantee that, but a side effect was Eddie being a werewolf. Gomez doesn’t seem to notice. Eddie is picked on a lot at school, but has a friend in his teacher; the kind and compassionate, but still stern, Mr. Feeny.
Living next door to the Addams’ is widower Harold Weir. He thinks they’re weird and doesn’t like their ways, but does have the hots for Jeannie.
