In "Last Person to Post" I pretended to misunderstand that Creepy was claiming to be a fan of Wolverine the mutant and not some sports team. And it led me to try to figure out how many different books Wolverine is a regular in these days. (New Avengers, Astonishing X-Men, Wolverine, and Wolverine: Origins. One of them is set in the past, so he doesn't have to be in four places at once . . .)
And I came across this on wiki:
New New Avengers: The Revolution
In the aftermath of Civil War the New Avengers team includes Echo, a new Ronin, (Clint Barton, formerly Hawkeye), Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man [7], Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Luke Cage is now the leader of the team, and their base is Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum, magically disguised as the location of a future Starbucks.
The new New Avengers? They sound like Defenders to me.
Particularly the Sanctum Sanctorum hideout. I just picture a past version of the Defenders showing up in their future on some sort of time travel adventure:
Nighthawk: Hey, Stephen.
Strange: Kyle! And Valkyrie, Hellcat, and Gargoyle, too? Where have all of you been hiding lately?
Nighthawk: You mean the us of your time. We're from the past. Remember when you sent us to the future that one time?
Strange: Oh! Sure.
Nighthawk: Don't tell me how it turns out, I want to be surprised. Oh, hey! Spider-Man and Wolverine join the Defenders of the future? Cool!
Spider-Man: Actually we're the Avengers.
Nighthawk: Ha, ha! Really! [looks around.] You're kidding, right?

Funny stuff, Serge. It really is an odd team, but every member prides him- or herself on the fact that they were handpicked by Cap to be on the team. (With the exception of Hawkeye, who's on the team because he figures that's what Cap would want.) They've sort of set it up so that it's Cap's Avengers.
That makes sense. Cap (along with Thor and Iron Man) is one of those "if he's on a team, then that team is the Avengers" guys. Even more so than Thor and Iron Man.
I'm not the only one who's noticed the similarity, I see. The last paragraph of the "fictional history" section of the Defenders' wiki:
Legacy
Although the Defenders have never been officially recreated, there have been other, unnamed teams put together by Doctor Strange since the team disbanded. During the latest story arcs in Marvel Team-Up, Doctor Strange assembled a team of heroes that has been nicknamed 'the Defenders'- consisting of the Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel and Nova- to combat the villain Titannus, subsequently creating a similar team to oppose Titannus's return. In the aftermath of the recent Civil War, Doctor Strange has also become a member of the New Avengers, providing the team with secure accommodation as they try to investigate the recent events that have turned the world upside-down
