That being said, this is kinda of an iffy thing with me. I think comedy taste changes depending on your mood. The same holds true for anything. Sometimes you want a romances, sometimes a crime drama, and sometimes just a big action. But I really do think I can love 100 comedies but rank them differently dozens of times. 2 weeks from now I might be more into silly humor and PCU would rank higher and Old School would make the cut. The "sophisticated humor" might take a backseat and Proxy and Tenenbaums might fall. But whatever.

Anchorman was my tease. A film I don't much like that some people love for some inexplicable reason. It ranked as high as #1 on other's ballots and is clearly into the tourney and has no place on my ballot. I thought ranking it 25th on such a list of complete and utter shit was a sufficient insult to it. Since I'm sure it will spend the next month pissing me off by knocking off better comedies.

I really don't like Anchorman. Don't really hate it but don't see the hype around it at all. But then again I think Ferrell might be the most overrated comedian I've ever seen. It had its high points and I dug the gang fight scene. But far too much of Ferrell's comedy is over the top silliness with nothing really to it besides "I should be embarrassed but I'm not." Does nothing for me. It worked very well in Old School in small doses and played against the dudes who weren't as silly (and even then, I think the Andy Dick BJ scene is the piss break of that film). But Anchorman is nothing but silly characters playing off of the silliest character. Blah. Straight men exist for a reason. Ferrell doesn't seem to believe in them.

Hudson Hawk is a masterpiece of insanity never taking itself seriously but always freely admitting that its crazy without shoving that in your face. And Bruce Willis sings with Danny Aiello. And makes out with a nun. And the Pope talks through a blinking Charlie's Angels crucifix speaker. And Frank Stallone is in it. Its beautiful. Noone could make a better bad film.

I too, don't think too highly of Anchorman. Or Will Ferrell. He has his moments, sure, but he just seems to go for the easy laugh too much. Act like an idiot and pretend you are not an idiot. After Lloyd Christmas, no one comes close.


As for Hudson Hawk, the only time I saw it was with this chick who really liked it and I knew what was going to go down after the movie. Longest movie ever....................

Damn, but Holy Grail has a tough bracket! I don't think any of the other high seeds have any really stiff competition till the final four, Whereas the Holy Grail bracket could be a final four in an of itself.

Seriously. I got on about the hard road Blues Brothers had but that's such an insane 4 movies that snuck through. Grail, BB, Clerks, and Princess Bride. And Big Lebowski and Fast Times already fell in that round.

Airplane and Naked Gun fit together and I'm glad one will knock the other off. They're both great comedies but its very similar sort of stuff. And South Park is in the same bracket. Knocking off some stupid comedy early makes sense. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but fleshing out the best is key.

Then again Caddyshack, Office Space, and Blazing Saddles are some pretty classic comedies to field another bracket. So maybe its just a good field in general. Ferris, Animal House, and Vacation in the other bracket.

Whoever makes it through that Airplane/NakedGun/SP/Major League bracket is insanely lucky. And yeah, the top left bracket is just insane.
