At minimum they are 4-2, if not 5-1 in the AFC East games. They play the NFC west, so that's good for 3 wins. The AFC West is at least 1 more win (not counting KC), possibly 2. And the two position games are Pitt and Indy. After last night, Maroney/Smith/Faulk/Jordan are all that's needed to beat them.

Hey, I'm not nearly enough of an NFL fan to be able to argue with you why predicting them losing their starting QB and still winning 12 Gs is silly. I just know that a statement like that sure does seem to mean you're either an idiot who expected them to win 16 Gs or someone who doesn't think Brady's worth a damn as a player. Even with a weak schedule your matter of fact 12 W prediction just seems stupid to me. But didn't you predict like 75 Ws from the Met rotation or something?

He's a slightly bigger homer. I expect the Patriots to go 10-6 and win the division. Maybe 11-5 if they're lucky.

The Patriots schedule, obviously is very favorable. They already beat KC, they've got the Jets next week, Miami, bye week, and then the 49ers. Worst case scenario they go 3-1 (although I expect they'll beat the Jets next week, because Favre has clearly not read the playbook and is heaving bullshit passes again).

If they start 3-1, they've only got to go 7-5 to finish 10-6. Bear in mind, they have games with the Rams and Raiders as well as another game with Miami. That leaves 4 wins out of: Bills (twice), Jets, Colts, Chargers, Seattle, Arizona, Denver and Pittsburgh. I imagine doing the job to the Colts, Chargers and Pittsburgh or the Jets (one, not both) are probably locks. Bills I think they'll split. Seattle looked like dogshit against the Bills, maybe they'll get lucky. They should handle Arizona, that defense is garbage. So it might all hinge on Denver, who the Patriots traditionally suck against, but it's in Foxboro, where they do a little better.

I don't know if anyone watched the Patriots in 2001 (I'm sure most of you didn't) but Brady's numbers weren't anything fantastic even up to and including the Super Bowl. 16-25 180 yds, Maybe a TD or two, that's about the average. I expect the Patriots to go back to the screens and spot passes they became famous for. Cassel isn't as good as Brady, that's clear - but Belichick puts players in a position to play to their strengths. There are 3 Pro Bowl O-Linemen on the team. Randy Moss. Wes Welker. Jabar Gaffney. A trio of Maroney, Morris and Jordan. All these are marked improvements over what Brady had to deal with when he took over for My Boy Drew.

The defense gave up 10 points. It WAS KC, but then again, it was only 10 points. The Patriots turned the ball over 3 times and still had 17 points. Every games not going to be a blowout by any means. I'll be sweating out every game.

But the team is TOO FUCKING GOOD to job out and go 4-12. There's no fucking way that happens. 10-6, and they'll win the division. After that? Who knows?
