I said it in the other thread, I liked SMB3, I think it is a good game, but I don't get the overwhelming love for it. Double Dash was a ton of fun. I have a feeling this is going to be a wasted vote for me, but Double Dash easily here.

I like SMB3, it just doesn't have the same magic and replayability that Double Dash has for me.

I usually prefer party Mario games to traditional platformer Mario games, the exception to that rule being Super Mario World. I don't remember SMB3 being anything special compared to the other Mario platformers from that time period.

having the raccoon tail was pretty cool. The frog suit was pretty much worthless unless you were on a water world. SMB3 was a great game, I just enjoyed Double Dash a whole lot more

My problem with Mario, is that he's been totally whored out by Nintendo and put into way, way, way too many spinoff games. The main titles, and the Kart games are pretty much the only ones I can stand, as the Kart games at least do something fun and clever with the genre and work in the Mario theme pretty well.

That said, why hasn't the Italian-American Anti-Defamation League ever targetted Nintendo for they're "Its-a me!" stereotypical bs?

Who gives a fuck? As a 14 year old, this game kicked every kind of ass known to man. They might have over extended that marinara blooded toilet pumper when Super Nintendo came out, but at the time, SMB3 was the best game ever and continued to be so for at least a decade. When my parents brought this home after months of us asking for it, we shit our pants* and played for hours upon hours.















Actually, I think it was Rampage that I shit my pants over. Couldn't wait to play that game and my parents bought it by my grandparents house who lived a two hour drive from my house. We stared at the game and game cover until the sun went down on the way home. I made it home but didn't stop to make a bathroom break before beating the game. I realized how boring the game was as soon as we beat it. This was the last time I shit my pants. True story.

And I like Double Dash fine enough. It's cool to match up different types and see what special stuff you get. But that doesn't change the fact that it's going up against the creme de la creme of Mario games and therefore deserves to be destroyed.

One of the biggest improvements from SMB to SMB3 was the 2 player mode that let you switch players between worlds. It sucked playing SMB 2 players now because you wait 20 minutes in between turns waiting for the other player to die.

The map screen, multiple fortresses and levels in each world, and the mini games were all new. Yeah, the suits were new and an advancement on the power up idea, as was the ability to carry items and powerups. The racoon tail and frog suit weren't it as there was also the P-Wing, the Hammer Bros suit, and the statue thing. And you could acquire one and then enter into a level wearing it, which added a new dynamic. There was also the original Mario Bros (or a reasonable facsimile) hidden in the game.

It really was a VERY different kind of game than SMB and it really was an absolute spectacle. The little you was probably hating the hype of it with the Nintendo conventions, the silly Wizard film, and all the fanfare. But I remember playing it for the first time at one of those conventions and it was just really 10x what SMB was. And while I personally don't find a ton of replay value people still grade it as one of the best games ever and fun to play.

We downloaded it from the VC and my wife and I absolutely loved playing it again. I think the replay value is pretty high. We got ourselves to level 8 but can't beat the level 8-1. Then again even as a kid I couldn't get past that. That is really my ONLY gripe about the game.

In all seriousness, I am not trying to put down SMB3 at all, I remember being very excited for it when it came out just like everyone else, and I remember playing it and enjoying it a lot as well. I guess it just didn't make the OMG THIS IS THE BEST EVER! impact on me that it did on others. I am not trying to sway votes here, cause I can see that there is no point, SMB3 is going to go really far.

I do think it is interesting that SMB3 gets a lot of credit for being innovative (and I did forget about the p-wing and the hammer suit) but Double Dash doesn't get the same consideration for being innovative. Having a tandem cart was, I believe - and I know I will be corrected if I am wrong - something pretty innovative for kart games.

Well, Double Dash might get more credit if (a) that innovation had stuck around or (b) more of us had played it. Personally, I've barely even heard of the game and I wouldn't be able to recognize a Gamecube.
