I used to love the arcade. I geek out at Dave & Busters now in the rare occasion that I go, although 90% of the games are either gun games or driving sims.

Hell, I remember when pizza joints like Round Table and Pizza Hut used to have to video games there, and we'd go there all the time to play shit like Frogger, Paperboy, Rastan, Altered Beast and what not. I remember playing Space Harrier, Super Punch-Out, Double Dragon and Gladiator at Malibu Grand Prix. And of course, NBA Jam and Street Fighter II at the local 7-11.

I used to love arcades as a kid. So there's no home console bias for me.

That said, Goldeneye > Karate Champ.

It has nothing to do with an arcade vs. home console argument. It comes down to the fact that Karate Champ was a mediocre fighting game-- and I'm being very generous calling it mediocre-- while Goldeneye esentially made the FPS genre... on consoles at least.

Fucking agreed. No bias, what so ever. I vote based on what game I think is better. In the case of games I've never heard of, I take the time to listen to arguments and if the arguments intrigue me, I'll do more research.

An argument saying "This game better fucking win because the other game was PACKED IN and this game was awesome in the arcades" convinces me to vote the otherway every time.

Instead of bashing the competition, why don't you actually give me some compelling reasons why Karate Champ should go over Goldeneye?

Its weird because I was the one having this arcade argument but of all the places to raise it this seems like the weirdest one. Because Karate Champ is in no way a highly praised arcade game while Goldeneye is one of the most loved games of my time. But Byrne framed it like "Goldeneye? Really, Goldeneye?!" I mean I never loved it myself because it wasn't my style but I was in the extreme minority and still am to this day.

Same with Mario Bros vs Star Wars. If you're going to raise the "Home Console vs Arcade" fight don't do it when you have an iconic console game on the board vs a not so iconic arcade game. That one ain't a win.

EDIT: Of course looking at the showdowns there's not a lot of great opportunities. The best examples I see of a clearly more iconic Arcade game than a Console are Ms Pacman vs Metal Gear Solid (And Lady Pacman ran over that contest) and Blitz vs Twilight Princess (and that's a draw). So Arcade games seem to hold up pretty well as NBA Jam's also fighting it out with No Mercy. It just seems like a handful of Arcade games are being unlucky enough to go up against some of the iconic games of systems. I know that's how I felt with After Burner vs Vice City which made me sad but was inevitable.
