Canada wins 7-3 in a disappointing game. It may have been due to the back to backs, but Canada started to play poor defensively in the last 30 minutes.

On the plus side, Canada still has a shot at the gold without yet playing a complete 60 minutes.

A 3 goal lead isn't an automatic win. Hell, Canada was up 4-2 heading in to the 3rd period at the Worlds last spring and lost to Russia.

I guess I just have concern over the slow start to the tourney.

Are you on drugs? They played a solid game front to back. They didn't stop putting offensive pressure on and they finally seem to be happy with their lines.

The game they just played would have beaten any team in the tournament if only because my hot goalie is better than your hot goalie.

Luongo in net with a 3-goal lead is about as automatic as you can get. I don't even recall a time he squandered a lead like that when fronted with the Panthers' defense.

The only disappointing game for me was against the Swiss. We played good against the US but our goalie wasn't top notch and theirs was unfuckingbelievable. Usually once you make the other team pull their starting goaltender from the game, you tend to slack a little.

And not saying this is a done deal, but I think they are playing good hockey.

Trust me, the Crosby goal will be a great thing to see....but I'm gonna be tired of hearing about it very soon. I've seen Mario's goal from '87 (Canada Cup) about 1000 times...I'm think this will catch up to it very quickly.

That being said...

Kudos to team USA. The game against Finland was the most fun game of the tourney, and Miller (not Luongo) who made his name as a money goalie. Add in the young guys in the system, and I'll be pissed if the NHL doesn't play in Russia in 2014. IF Miller doesn't decline, they will be a favorite with Russia and Canada for the gold.

Plus as a Leafs fan, I'm feeling slightly better about our GM and coach...although not so much about Kessel.

The one thing about Crosby that I can get behind is the likelihood of a Tiger Woods-like meltdown 10 years from now. They were both pegged at a very young age to be the next guy to top their respective sports. They're both personality devoid sports-bots with pre-packaged soundbites at the ready for any possible situation. They're both the biggest, most recognizable, most marketed individuals in their professions. The parallels are obvious.

I want a coked-up Crosby to crack and kill a Las Vegas hooker and then try to cover it up with bribes.

And kudos to the Canadian fans for giving Miller the props he deserved during the medal ceremony. I'm a fan of hockey in general more than "picking sides", so it's very nice to have a neighboring country who feels the same way.

And for those of you who hadn't seen much of Rick Nash before this tourney because he's been buried in Columbus, are you impressed, now? He kinda reminds me of what Lindros was hyped to be when he came into the league.

But yeah, the Nash doesn't get mentioned enough when people talk about the best players in the game. He's one of the best scorers in the game, and over the past couple of years has stepped up his all around game. The problem is that it's hard for a lot of teams to add the right pieces to a star player these days. People were talking about the Pens window closing last year, and there's all ready talk about Chicago having to dump players. If a team like Columbus makes screws up on one or two contracts, it wastes a top talent like Nash.

Why? Bettman doesn't care about the NHL. He cares about a select group of owners being happy. Remember, this is a guy running a pro-hockey league that though Dallas was a better market then Minnesota.
