To weigh in on this one, I'm not a fan of allowing anything other than songs. As much as I'd love to see someone think they could win by adding a comedy bit or a podcast or something, it's just not a good idea.

The time limit rule, while it makes sense, makes me do too much work, so I don't like it. I would suggest either dropping the number of songs to 18-20 (for realism) or making it a double-CD event and upping the number of songs (based on number of participants).

Either way, or pretty much any way, I'll play.

So far I've used 7:39. It's very little work, it's basic math, plus every computer has a built in calculator in its programming, as do most cell phones.

Also, adding 4:47 to 3:39 confuses me a lot. I'm bad at the maths. And yes, I could convert everything into seconds then divide by 60, but fuck that. Not doing math is easier than doing math.

Yea, we mentioned this. We would need either a reliable source of song lengths or we would need to post a link to the song for an official ruling on the length.

But now that it's out of the question, it doesn't matter anyway.

I'm honestly fine either way with things, but if we stick to just number of songs, I'd prefer to drop it to 20 for "realism". I'm sure somebody will take Iron Butterfly or some full-length Doors songs, but ultimately we'll all probably come in around the 80-minute "realistic CD" anyway if we set it at 20 songs.

Also, limiting to 20 will make things easier to "compare" side-by-side than 25 would. Maybe not too much easier, but easier, nonetheless.

I am in favor of the Double-disc idea and maybe up the number of songs to 30 or 40. That makes two nice even tracked disc.

Depending on # of people participating, why not open it up similar to the Super Hero and Super Villain drafts and allow everyone to draft 2 distinct Mix CD's instead of 1 double CD.

I'd be down for that as well, Dev. I've definitely got a wide variety of tastes in music, but I wouldn't want certain songs/artists on the same mix with others.

No one should bring up the time thing unless they have a practical way to make it work. Simple as that. If you have a super reliable website or some other extra awesome idea then go for it. Otherwise whatcha gonna do?

And yeah, I'm cool with multiple CDs. I mentioned early on to SG that allowing multiple entrants per person makes more sense in this draft than any other given the millions of songs out there and all the varying styles or themes you can do with mix cds. So I'm all for it.

If people want to put strategy in this thing, as was mentioned during the 80 minute discussion, how bout you can choose ONE song per artist/group and that's it. We all have our favorite bands we could fill cd's worth with, why not see what happens if we limit it.

While I appreciate the idea behind it, avoiding someone just putting together a boring Metallica Best Of or something... it doesn't seem worth the hassle. It unnecessarily limits what people might want to do and adds more work for you. If someone does end up just being lame and loading up their CD(s) with the same handful of artists so be it. Let the showdown rule on that.

I might still be in. Count me in for now. And as Lucky said, we have the option of doing the Jukebox thing. Pun knows how to set it up. Maybe Fish, Lucky or Gator do too. I put one up on a band's forum I used to run (well, still run) and it could be good for a refresher on some songs. The only thing is, if someone drafts Welcome To The Jungle, we all know what that sounds like, so it would just take up space. Of course, that website that had the music on it wasn't too deep as far as I could tell but it could be a nice refresher for some of us.

I'm not opposed to having 15 or 20 songs, but I'd rather have 80 minutes over X number of songs. Add to that everyone gets two cds? I'm not a fan of multiple slots for drafters, it kind of weighs down the essence of the draft. Go the silly song route or the serious route. We don't get two slots in the wrestling draft to do a gimmick fed like Moose's or Gators and then get a legit one. Gotta make choices, it makes the drafting that much more real.

Plus, now we're putting rewards up for the winner, why give someone (even if it's everyone) more than one chance to win? Decide what route you want to go for and then stick with it.

So that alienated me, too.

As far as finding a reliable website, I don't know what to tell you. Pick one and stick to it. Use AMG and be done with it.

I checked the Black album by Metallica and cross checked AMG, Wiki and the album from my itunes and Wiki was spot on while AMG was a second or two off on some of them. But tough shit, Wiki doesn't have everything on it and it's not legitimate as far as I'm concerned. But at the same time, AMG probably doesn't have everything either, but I'm pretty sure if it's obscure enough to not be there, then not many people are going to vote on it, anyway. IMDB didn't have every budget, so a lot of movies were ineligible and pissed some people off, but we got over it. It seems like everyone these days, including me, get their panties in a wad over little details that it just sucks a lot of the fun out of the whole process that's being done for fun. And as far as the timing goes, it's elementary school math. We're all adults. Get a calculator and figure it out if you have to.

As far as the multiple song versions go, covers are ok, but no live versions, promo's or spoken word or whatever somebody suggested. The song would be from the original album it appeared on (no Best Of Complilations, unless that's where the song first showed up {Think: Mary Jane's Last Dance from TPetty&THB}). If you want one of the speeches from Pulp Fiction then that sounds retarded, but I guess it would technically be allowed? I would vote no on that, but I guess it should be allowed. But songs off of youtube where stuff got edited in? No. Soundtrack songs? Only if that's the only place that they happened to be on. If you want Unattractive by the Toadies, it's only on The Cable Guy Soundtrack (well, it's also on their Rock Show concert from St. Patty's '08, but that's ineligible because it's live). But if you want to draft You Never Can Tell by Chuck Berry, you wouldn't be allowed to draft the Pulp Fiction version, you'd have to draft the Original from the album St. Louis to Liverpool.

But we're doing 2 cds per drafter of 20 songs. Just not as exciting to me.

Yeah, this is not that great of an idea. Say you want an old Aerosmith song, but then late in the draft you decide you'd like one of their newer ones where they have a different sound. Or, is an early Black Sabbath song equal to one when they had Dio fronting the band? If it's just name only, but pretty much the same band like Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship then that would be a cop out.

How about a person being able to draft UP TO 45 songs that can be spread over UP TO 3 CD's, but NO MORE THAN 15 tracks per CD?

Seems like it could appease a lot of the current "concerns" about draft length if people can feel free to call it quits when they are happy with the songs they've got. Think you can have the perfect mix with only 10 songs? Have at it. Feel like doing that twice and stopping at 20? Fine by me.

Well, possibly, but not likely. Sure the person with only 1 album has a lower pure statistical chance of winning, but his album will consist entirely of the first songs he drafted. Theoretically, a CD made up of all songs drafted later on is composed of "less-desirable" songs.

Anyway, just a thought. Trying to not drive people away because they feel REQUIRED to complete the draft to a certain length. Even if we go the 2 of 20 route, I might quit myself at 2 of 15 if I like the compilations I have enough and don't wanna "force" others in there.

Sounds simple? yes it is.
I say we go this route, once we finished the draft, Gator can run a Shark draft. And have the winner of the original draft go against the winner of the "left over" draft.
