So as I BFG, but it's usually because we know what we are doing and aren't installing assloads of shit and installing all sorts of HW.
As a rule, I usually reinstall the OS on my main machine once a year whether it needs it or not.
Not to disparage Serg but he might not have EVER rebuilt this machine since he's had it.
Might be time.
Shit, at least Serg, run a registry cleaner, defrag the HW and checkdisk.
If you are intrested in doing this I can post instructions if you'd want...

It would amuse me if next year Byrne did a women's fed or Texas fed. I'd just like to see how he tries to make it a dark, demonic, ECW homage led by James Mitchell or Raven. -- Lucky, 2009
see. i told you byrne was the way to go here. like i said, he's a big dork. -- Ziggy, 2009
Ah, jeez, I never posted when I finally fixed this--I was busy with stuff.
The problem was the drive cord, I had an old 8-wire cord, and the new drive needed a 16-wire. (Or was that 16 and 32? Well, you get the idea.) When I finally figured out that that was the source of my problem, I ordered the cord I needed and installed it, and haven't had any further problems with the drive.
I defrag pretty regularly (when the Hard drive is full and I move stuff onto DVD, I check to see if a defrag is needed at the same time as checking to see how much space I've cleared) and I run a registry cleaner from time to time, but I've never re-installed. Computer's a couple years old, I should probably do that soon.
Thanks again to BFG for all of the helpful suggestions. I was exalting you regularly while all of this was going on, but since I'm thinking of it, have one more!
