Can't we just say "fill 40 roster slots" and leave it at that? Why complicate things with some people bailing early and others adding extra personnel?

MTA: If you want more managers and valets, that's fine. Draft fewer wrestlers. If you only want 28 wrestlers, that's fine. Draft more announcers, refs, and guest enforcers.

I don't. I've never really liked the idea of minimum or maximums in this. If someone thinks they can build a series of cards with 10 wrestlers, let them. If someone feels the need to flesh out their roster 50 deep, let them.

With regards to the voluntary floating idea, my suggestion would be no one can take more than 3 floating picks within a round of picks. Once you make those 3 picks, you have to wait a full round of picks before making any more floating picks. It allows people to step away and get some new ideas, but it also stops them from building up 15 picks that they can make at once.

I think calling your roster early is a good option for someone who has decided they're finished drafting. Why force them to draft 10 more names that they aren't going to use? If they're done, let them be done. It doesn't really complicate anything, either. Have the rule state that calling your roster is a one-time thing, and you can't go backsies on it, and then we won't have to deal with voluntary floating and floating picks and other rules stemming from this one.

Unlimited rosters. Never really thought about it because 40 should be enough for a single card. The only problem I would have with it would be people just stocking up in add/drop. Say we keep the draft at 40 rounds. Once add/drop begins, the first guy to post could pick up 50 extra guys, just in case he might need them in later rounds. So because this guy did his research and found all these undrafted wrestlers to sign to his fed, there's really no one else left to add for anyone else looking to do so.

I really dont think I'm changing roster sizes at all. Just wanted to hear the argument for expansion, since I've heard several for contraction. Unless I'm blown away by something ... 40 it is.

As for the floating picks, listen I don't want to limit the number of floating picks like that to penalize anyone. I do want the integrity of the draft to be intact. Someone says "Float me, I'll be in Fiji for the weekend" and they miss 4 picks, they can catch up. Someone says "Float me, I don't know what to do next" and misses multiple picks, they're circumventing the rules. Maybe I'll have to add a "Be Reasonable" clause

To keep the draft moving during an absence from the boards, you may 'float' a pick or two. A reasonable explanation will be required. If your absence extends past the indicated time, subsequent clocks will be considered missed

I Think I'm Done Rule: At any point in the draft, a player may "call their draft." This means that the player is finished drafting and would like their remaining draft picks to be waived. Once a player calls their draft, their roster is set and cannot trade roster members or picks. If they decide they want to add more members to their roster, they must wait until Add/Drop begins to do so.

Be Reasonable Clause: If I determine someone is floating picks to circumvent the above rule, I reserve the right to nullify said picks and declare their roster set until Add/Drop.

Be Draconian. The one things drafts need more than anything else is someone willing to set their foot down and take charge. Discussing things like this before hand is fine, but once it starts up, no polls on what we should do, or asking the group if something is okay. It should be Sharky's way or the highway.

You do realize you're using the "AA's an Asshole" rule incorrectly. That rule was instituted by Lucky in the C&B Baseball draft to essentially say, "If you found a loophole and are using it to abuse the good nature of the game, it isn't allowed." Most of the time, I found those loopholes and abused them just to mess with Lucky. I miss Lucky.

My take:

-- I don't care if anyone floats a ton of picks. They're entitled to the picks they missed, I appreciate them giving us the go-ahead in advance, and we benefited by picking ahead of them while they were gone. Sounds like a win-win to me.

-- I don't care if someone really wants to expand their roster past 40. Let them do it during drop/add. I also don't care if someone wants to call their roster early. But if you call it, you can't change your mind until drop/add. The only thing I could see is limiting the # of picks you can make in a row in drop/add. iof Matte's example of adding 50 people when drop/add starts happened, that could hurt others. The only way I support it is when it's a Shark draft. Maybe limit the roster adds (with no drops) to 4 at a time?

And much like I told Sharky in a PM last week, I am all for having Shark make all the decisions and not even ask the group. We need a leader, and he is that man--err...fish.

Once the draft begins, Yes, I will make all the calls and decisions, based on the rules and the "Integrity of the Draft" line I floated out there yesterday. I liked the sound of it.

I don't mind the discussion and hypothesis right now. I will say it will take a pretty overwhelming consensus to change a current rule. As Someone (Hodgey?) said.. We have our rules in place, no need to mess with what works.

I said I didn't oppose the roster expansion, but it too needed a number. I was thinking what Mxtte said. I kind of had a reasonable number of free agents in mind, with a stipulation, but without more support, the idea dies in here.

I can't really remember any huge draft issues here at Pun's. OO had a few, but Matte seemed to have had those ironed out by the last one. Maybe the Abraham Lincoln thing. Which was addressed in the rules the following year. With us being a smaller, more tight knit community, I can't see the voting scandals happening either. Should anything like that happen, I will come down hard and quick.

I do like having the fresh discussion about things though. Which is kinda why I opened the thread so early. Everyone gets their say ahead of time and we should have less bitching and moaning later on.

Further expounding on the Showdown. I am trying double-elimination. I have a couple of formats drawn out already. We have had between 20 and 24 each Draft. We have 14 already, with weeks to go, and we still havent heard from a number of regulars (THM, AA, Punker, Angle, Eco, BTR, angst, Etc...)

Anyone who has run a bracket tournament will realize quickly a Double Elimination format means The Winner's Bracket will have rounds off. You can do what you like with your storytelling during these rounds, but just know. If you keep winning throughout, you will have rounds where you are not required to post a card. If you submit one, I'll likely ignore it, and reply telling you why.
