Show of Evil
Directed by Ben Affleck
Written by William Diehl adapting his best selling novel
10 years ago Aaron Stampler(Edward Norton), a seemingly innocent, angelic looking Appalachian boy, was Charged with the brutal murder of Archbishop Richard Rushman. Defense attorney Martin Vail(Kyle Chandler) defended Stampler and saved his life, pleading him guilty but insane. Stampler did commit the killing, but it was discovered that he was a split personality. It came out during the trial that Rushman was a pedophile, who raped Aaron and the other Altar Boys. We pick up the story 10 years later, with Stampler locked in a maximum security mental institution and Vail now on the other side of the law as the new District Attorney...
While investigating an unrelated crime Harvey St Claire(John Goodman), a former Texas Ranger now working as an investigator for Vail, and the office computer expert Ben Meyer(Chris Pine) uncover the murder of Linda Gellerman (Michelle Trachtenberg). Gellerman, Stampler's former girlfriend and one of the victims abused by Rushman, is found butchered to death in the same style that Rushman was. A few days later Alexander Lincoln(Jason Dohring), the last of Rushman's living victims, is killed. Vail's associate Dermott Flaherty (Ethan Hawke) goes to look into it, and with the help of Sgt Andrew Nicholson (Glenn Morshower) discovers that Lincoln was killed in the same way as Rushman and Gellerman.
Vail flies to the mental institution to have a meeting with Stampler and his new psychologist Dr Samuel Woodward(Anthony Stewart Head). While there, he learns that Stampler is now deemed 'cured' and is scheduled to be released to a halfway house. Stampler subtly taunts Vail, both knowing that Stampler is faking and there is nothing Vail can do about it. Vail returns home and confers with the rest of his team: his assistant Naomi Chance (Pam Grier), Major Able stenner(Tommy Lee Jones) the cop who arrested Stampler 10 years ago and now works for Vail, Jane Venable (Connie Britton) Vail's former adversary now turned girlfriend, St Claire,Flaherty and Meyer. The group works together to try and figure out how Stampler is leading these killings from the mental institution and what he's going to do once he's released.
Vail and St Claire visit Stampler's former psychologist Molly Arington (Piper Perabo) and with her help follow a trail that leads to Rebecca (Glen Close), Stampler's equally psychotic Teacher/Mentor/Lover who's the one who killed Gellerman and Lincoln. Stampler is released and then the first night he's out, he escapes from his halfway house and attacks Stenner and Venable, leaving them near death while at the same time Rebecca kills and beheads Judge Harry Shoat (Donald Sutherland) who was the trial judge during Stenner's trial 10 years ago. Rebecca is then shot to death while trying to kill Vail. Stampler drugs, rapes and then kills Arington.
At the film's conclusion Vail, Flaherty and St Claire track Stampler to his hometown, where he falls down a mineshaft. Stenner and Venable recover from their injuries, and Venable and Vail get engaged.

Runaways is a comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The series features a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are part of an evil crime group called the Pride. Created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, the series debuted in July of 2003 as part of Marvel Comics' "Tsunami" imprint. The series had been canceled in September 2004 at issue eighteen, but due to high numbers of trade collection sales, Marvel revived the series in February 2005.
Originally, the series featured a group of six kids whose parents routinely met every year for a charity event. One year, the kids spy on their parents and learn they are "the Pride", a criminal group of mob bosses, time-travelers, dark wizards, mad scientists, alien invaders and telepathic mutants. The kids steal weapons and resources from their parents, and learn they themselves inherited their parents' powers; Alex Wilder, a prodigy, leads the team while Nico Minoru learns she is a powerful witch, Karolina Dean discovers she is an alien, Gertrude Yorkes learns of her telepathic link to a dinosaur, Chase Stein steals his father's futuristic gloves, while young Molly Hayes learns she is a mutant with incredible strength. The kids band together and defeat their parents, and atone for the sins of their parents by fighting the new threats trying to fill in the Pride's void. After being betrayed by Alex he is killed by the Gibborim (The Pride's God), they are later joined by cyborg Victor Mancha, shape-shifting Skrull Xavin, and plant-manipulator Klara Prast.
Ever since the original groups' introduction, the Runaways have been portrayed as a somewhat dysfunctional yet loving family. Series creators Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona left the series at issue twenty-four of the title's second volume. The second volume was continued by Joss Whedon and Michael Ryan until they departed at issue thirty. Writer Terry Moore and artist Humberto Ramos became the creative team for two story arcs. After one issue written by Christopher Yost and James Asmus, Kathryn Immonen and Sara Pichelli became the new creative team. The book is currently on hiatus; the last issue released was Volume 3, number 14, in 2009.
