Frank Miller

Dick Sprang
Back when every Batman comic was contractually required to be signed "by Bob Kane," Dick Sprang was known to comic-book fans only as "the good Bob Kane."
In contrast, with the success of the movie adaptations of Sin City and 300, Frank Miller is very likely the most famous name among the Batman artists.
This match-up is practically a bye for Miller, but Sprang should not be disregarded. Miller himself had a lot of respect for his work--he was among the three talents that Miller honored by naming a Gotham City landmark after him.
Sprang was hired as one of Bob Kane's ghosts in 1941, but for the first couple of years his stories were stockpiled in anticipation of the possibility of Kane being drafted. He co-created the villain the Riddler. He drew Batman stories until 1955, when he took over the art on World's Finest, where he went on to chronicle the adventures of the Batman/Superman team until his retirement in 1963.
Miller both wrote and drew Batman in the epochal mini-series The Dark Knight Returns and its sequel. He also wrote other important Batman projects with other artists, but that isn't relevant to this Showdown. He co-created . . . um . . . mob boss Carmine Falcone
