I'm a very big fan of the first Saw. Saw II sucked and Three was just slightly better but the first was really good.

I thought SAW was very overrated. And Jigsaw isn't half the psychologically ambiguous villain he's portrayed as. I always thought it was lame that he's really just a fucking killer who plays games but the movies try so hard to get this "he wants to save you" thing across. Bullshit.

Still, it was a good horror film while 2 and 3 were... I dunno. Lesser and just sort of mediocre horror. American Psycho's one hell of a one too, though. I might have to lean towards the pretty boy.

Psycho was done right. It wasn't just a serial killer movie, but a look at the fine line for some people between normal and crazy. Actually, I pretty much 100& agree with Ebert, so I'll just link to his review:

I've never seen American Psycho but Saw was ok. But Cary Elwes' atrocious job of acting makes me vote against it.

Also, if you ignore the sequel which had barely anything to do with the original, American Psycho also left it up to you to decide if all the murders were real or not.

I was about 20 minutes late to see AP so we left after about 5 minutes. I think he just killed a dog in an alley. We had just got a new dog that looked like that one. We was sad.

Meant to go and rewatch it, and I think I will now that I've developed a man crush on Christian Bale.

I like the first Saw. Definitely a piece of mindfuckery and a new type of horror movie, at least for me.

But it's Christian Bale! And I don't vote for much over the greatest Batman ever.

Saw actually took very heavily from Seven and other films. It wasn't nearly as original as it was hyped as. Its just that horror goes through such waives of mainstream acceptance and always does so in fads that each generation seems to get introduced to this stuff anew. So Saw and 28 Days Later get to be new.

Saw did kick off the whole torture porn thing, so I guess it can be credited for that. Thankfully it looks like the genre has grown tired of it and it looks like they may be headed towards more traditional monster movies.

I bet if I do the math on how many movies in our showdown were made after 1989 I'm going to be really pissed.

Of the other 12 movies that you listed that did not make it, only the newer Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dog Soldiers, and Black House are after 1990.
