are you ever in best buy and you see a card, probably in or around the disney section, that says if you buy a disney movie and put a $5 deposit on the upcoming release, you'll get $5 off that release when it comes out?
now, you have to bring this card to the register, it has the barcode to scan to get you the deal, but when the movie does come out, it's not the card that gets you the discount, it's your receipt. the card is nothing.
well i was in best buy the other day and i saw a very similar looking card that said if you buy a disney movie you'll get a free movie pass to see wall-e. i picked up the card but hadn't decided whether i was gonna participate in the promotion yet (i pick up alot of "maybes" while i shop at best buy. about half of what i'm carrying gets put back before i make my final purchases). by the time i make it to the counter to pay i've decided not to get a disney movie that day, but i took the card with me as a reminder that the deal is out there.
today, it occurs to me that this card is shrink-wrapped, something these cards aren't usually. and then i notice it says "free movie certificate inside." now i'm thinking what i'm thinking can't possibly be true, so i open it up and there's the certificate. im still thinking there's no way this thing is valid straight out of the card so i look all over for whatever best buy has to do to validate this, or if it states it requires a receipt with it or anything and there's NOTHING. there is nothing on this certificate that makes it not good to go right out of the package.
so basically, i accidentally stole a free movie pass to wall-e. and there was nothing stealth about this either. while i was getting rung up i held it up and said to my brother, "yeah, i'm taking this promo card with me cuz i might want to come back and take the offer." no one said anything.
so i guess the moral of the story is if you want to see wall-e for free, head to best buy and grab one of these cards.
