Day Two: Went to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. What a great place. We spent almost two hours walking around the little shops around the hall before we even went into the hall itself. It was pretty cool, thought you would think the Mets, Yankees and Red Sox threw up there, there was more stuff from them than all the other teams combined. I did get a great Mike Schmidt Cooperstown jersey though, so it was worth it.
The Hall of Fame itself. Not as big as I thought it would be, but considering it is almost 70 years old, that is not very surprising. It was pretty amazing to see a lot of the stuff there. I took lots of pictures, my favorite probably being one with the Phanatic. The thing that was really cool though was that there were some teams there from something, I have no idea if it was some sort of little league or what, but they were walking through the hall when they weren't playing the game, and to hear them talk, they appreciated the history of the game. Not once did I hear "who is that guy?" they knew some really obscure names, and they were seeking out stats on a lot of guys. Just one of those cool things that gives me hope for the future.
The Museum is cool, but the part where they have the plaques honoring the inductees is really something special. Its hard to explain unless you see it, but the room they are in really has an air of reverence around it, t just feels special.
This will make the guys in chat happy. We borrowed a tomtom navigator for the trip, and I have to admit, they are pretty cool. I could still find the way using a map, but this makes it a little easier. Leaving Cooperstown we had to get back to I-90 to get to Schenectady for the night, and holy shit, tomtom had us going a rural route where part of the trip was on a gravel road, through the back roads of New York. It was pretty cool, though I am glad we did it during the day, making that trip at night would have been a bit unnerving.
And now I am in Schenectady New York at a Hampton Inn. Great hotel, but Schenectady is less than impressive. I am hoping that tomorrow night's stay in Pawtucket is a bit more impressive.
Hotel Utica, I told you, it reminded me of The Shining
Just another view of the Overl.....errrr Hotel Utica
From the Hall of Fame, Babe Ruth with Blackjack Pershing. Being a WWI wonk, I couldn't resist this picture
GLORY! I got a Schmidt jersey just like this one
The Phanatic and The Moose
The Original Five: Christy Matthewson, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and Babe Ruth. If you are starting an all-time fantasy team, which of these do you take as the #1 pick?
YOU GOT KNOCKED HE FUCK OUT!
