Hell On Earth: Battlefield Los Angeles
Angel (Matt Damon), the Vampire with a soul, sets into motion a course of events that will bring the Senior Partners (Clancy Brown & Lena Headey) to our world. The only person who can bring the pieces into place to stop the onslaught of the Senior Partners is Xander Harris (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). The former sidekick of the legendary Buffy Summers has been honing his skills as a Watcher. Two of his loyal Slayers, Reese and Vi (Jennifer Lawrence & Kate Mara) are the first to follow him into this war to end all wars.
But as they enter these battles, the enemies are both close and far. From the mysterious Immortal (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) to the Senior Partners hand-picked champion, Hamilton (Jeremy Renner) can they overcome the odds. Standing in the way of our white hats are Hamilton's own brainwashed Evil Slayers, Akira & Ren (Chiaki Kuriyama & Katie Holmes).
The battle takes place in Los Angeles. The war takes place on Earth. Can good overcome evil or is the deck stacked against two unlikely allies and whatever forces they can get to back them up. Directed by the genius mind of David Fincher, the man behind Fight Club & The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo based on a screenplay adapted by the man who created Lost, Fringe, and Alias, JJ Abrams
Starman
Family battles family in this unconvential superheroic thriller. The film starts with the shooting death of David Knight (Jon Hamm), the current Starman. Shortly after, Ted Knight (James Cromwell) is hospitalized after narrowly escaping an attempt on his life as well. He is visited by his son, Jack (John Cusack), who had, in the past, openly resented his family's unusual line of work. Ted tells Jack to hide, to leave Opal City, knowing that someone is after all of them.
Someone is: the Mist (Christopher Walken) and his daughter Nash (Carla Gugino), aided by another man, Ragdoll (Ray Park). Together, they want to put an end to the Starman legacy; the Mist is suffering a degenerative mental condition, and is only lucid for brief periods of time, thus the immediacy of the plan.
Against his father's orders, Jack borrows one of his father's oldest weapons after survivng an attempt on HIS life, and (somewhat reluctantly) returns to Opal City as the newest Starman. Aided by the amoral and immortal ex-villain known as the Shade (Tom Hardy), he battles Nash and the Mist, while detective siblings Matt and Hope O'Dare (Ben Foster and Jessica Biel) organize forces against Ragdoll and his gang. During one of the melees, Jack meets his girlfriend-to-be, Sadie (Kate Winslet).
When the story ends, Jack "becomes" Starman with the full endorsement of his father. The Mist is institutionalized, Nash is imprisoned, and Ragdoll escapes. The Shade and the Knights leave on good terms, Jack reconnects with Sadie, and the credits roll.
Directed by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, the Evil Dead trilogy, A Simple Plan)
Written by Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River, Man On Fire)
When Justice Fails
In 1992, police detective Ray Burton (BRAD PITT) is one of the better junior detectives in the Buffalo Police Department. While on a case with mentor and partner Jake Stevens (CLINT EASTWOOD), they receive a call from their Commandant (JAMES EARL JONES) of a murder in the poorer area of the city. Little do they know they are walking into a ring of murderers who kill for pleasure and to gain notoriety, with the intent to capture the mayor, Larry Stewart (MARLON BRANDO). The masterminds of the plot to take down the mayor (DUSTIN HOFFMAN and ANTHONY HOPKINS) enlist the aid of some of the country’s most notorious killers (PIERCE BROSNAN and NICHOLAS CAGE). Once the evil-doers are aware of the impending police action, they kidnap Burton’s wife, Nicole (NATALIE PORTMAN) and his brother, Charlie (CHARLIE SHEEN), a struggling comedian. Will the preservers of justice be able to overcome take down the Buffalo Axis of Evil? Directed by JAMES CAMERON, written and produced by PETER JACKSON.
