Our last Round 2 matchup features DC's 2 and 3 going at it. #2 Lex Luthor vs. #3 Ra's Al Ghul. Lex has the mainstream thing going for him, but Ra's (like Deathstroke) seems to have a more devoted set of followers. How will this play out? Your arguments and ultimately your votes will decide.

Luthor all the way for me. Until Batman Begins I never even heard of Ra's. I've liked numerous versions of Luthor : Gene Hackman, John Shea, the Smallville guy (from what I've seen of it, Spacey.

"Mainstream" is never a great reason to vote for a guy. But you have to figue there's a reason they're mainstream. The extremely mortal Luthor is a resonant enemy for Superman in a way Ra's Al-Ghul isn't for Batman.

It doesn't hurt that not only is Lex Luthor a household name, so is his GROUP. Legion of Doom is not primarily known for wrestling. (I don't think?)

They are to me. I had honestly never heard of them in the comic sense until this thread.

Me neither. I don't think they've appeared in movies, cartoons, or tv series too much. I think most people know Superman through the movies and the 1960s(?) TV show. And the younger folks from Smallville or Lois & Clark.

I disagree entirely. Superman is first and foremost a comic book character. I doubt there are many people out there watching the movies and tv shows who would be surprised to hear that. Comic books are certainly not as pervasive as tv or movies, but everyone knows they're out there, and Superman is probably the most recognizable comic book character in the world.

The Legion of Doom was not in the Superman or JLA comics. The Legion of Doom was the group of Super Villains in the old Challenge of the Superfriends show. IT was LEx Luthor, Braniac (sans pants), Bizarro, Black Manta, Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, Cheetah, Riddler, Scarecrow, Toyman, Solomon Grundy, Sinestro, and Giganta.

Right. The show only lasted one season, but it went into syndication FOREVER. I watched it all the time when I was 10. I was aware of it way before the Legion of Doom in wrestling. Maybe you guys just have age on me.

I like Ra's a lot, and I haven't liked many of the various characterizations of Luthor. But, as I mentioned in the Great Comic Book Artists thread, I love Elliot S! Maggin's take on him; probably one of my favorite characters in all of literature. Once again, I will plug Maggin's book: Last Son of Krypton.

Also he has the "iconic" thing on his side. Luthor it is.
