The Draft
Teams will participate in a “snake draft” (teams pick in order from 1-12 in even rounds and from 12-1 in odd rounds) based on the reverse order of standings from the previous league year. The league champion, regardless of record, picks last. Teams will draft for 15 rounds, or until they have rostered 15 players. Teams that do not have 15 players after the 15th round (due to trades) will immediately be entered into a supplemental draft to fill their rosters.
*NEW RULE FOR 2014 SEASON*
Teams that do not make the playoffs will be entered into a consolation bracket. The winner of this bracket can choose their inverse placement in the first and second rounds (ie. 1st and 24th or 4th and 21st) in the following year’s draft. If the owner does not choose, they will receive the standard 1st and 24th pick. All other rounds will revert back to inverse order of final standings.
Keepers
Up to three players can be kept from one season to the next. Each keeper costs a draft pick one round higher than the previous year (Example: If a player was drafted in the 7th round last year he would cost a 6th round pick this year). If a player was drafted, waived, then picked up on waivers, the original draft round is the starting keeper value. If a team does not have a draft pick in the round a keeper is slotted to be kept in the team must spend a draft pick on the next highest round to keep the player (If a player’s cost is a 6th round pick but the team has traded away it’s 6th rounder the player may be kept at the cost of a 5th round pick).
No players drafted in the first three rounds can be keepered. However, a player drafted in rounds 4 and later can continue to be kept for up to (and including) the cost of a 1st round pick (A player drafted in round 4 can be kept the next year for a 3rd, the year after for a 2nd, etc).
Keepers are generally due to the league commissioner at least a week before the draft begins.
