We have this discussion today about all cartoons because of Walt's success with this. Plus they brought us Technicolor. you know cartoons with color!!!!

The wife is a tad creative. We made T-Shirts and wore them one of the days. It was the day we went to Knotts. The Goofy pic is from the Hotel Merch Shop. We stayed at Disneyland's Reosrts since I get a discount.....It was still really expensive though.

The backs of the shirts had all the cool stuff we were going to do on the honeymoon. I'll have to see if we still have it on a Word file at home. Maybe I can post what it looks like.

Um, yeah, Silly Symphonies spawned great cartoons, and they were innovative and all, but the Freakazoid theme song is really funny. Sorry, M-Kid. Life just sucks sometimes.

When I get married I'm calling MKid. We'll do a week or so of serious romantic honeymoon and then I'm getting him to cut me the best deal at Disney. Between Disney World. Epcot, and MGM. The Safari thing, the kick ass hotels. He has to get good deals. I'm bribing him every way when that time comes. Because that's fun. After you fuck for a week on an island somewhere.

but why? My fond Mickey and Donald memories don't come from Silly Symphonies. Quite frankly, I never enjoyed Silly Symphonies. Historically, it's important, yes, but think about this:

illy Symphonies was an acclaimed series of animated short subjects produced by Walt Disney Productions from 1929 to 1939. Unlike the Mickey Mouse series it served as a sister series to, Silly Symphonies did not usually feature continuing characters. Donald Duck got his start in a Silly Symphonies cartoon (The Wise Little Hen, 1934), and Pluto's first appearance without Mickey Mouse was also in a Silly Symphonies cartoon (Mother Pluto, 1936).

You want to talk about Steamboat Willie being revolutionary? Guess what? It pre-dates Silly Symphonies by a year. It wasn't a Silly Symphony.

And those 1929-1939 episodes were never shown on syndicated TV when I was a kid. I have no memory of any of these shows. My fond memories from Mickey and Donald come from Fantasia, Mickey and the Beanstalk, Mickey's Christmas Carol, Three Caballeros, Prince and the Pauper, and of course, Disneyland.

Actually, my earliest Mickey memories aren't even the cartoons. It was coloring books, and my first record, Mickey Mouse Disco.


But honesly, I have no memories of Silly Symphonies, despite how important it is in cartoon history. Hell, with no Silly Symphonies, I know there would be no Looney Tunes, and thus, no Freakazoid.

But Freakazoid made me laugh my ASS off. And I remember it well.
