Billionaire Bruce Wayne enters the underground parking garage of Wayne Tower. He heads toward his stretch limo as the lights begin to flicker. They blink out for just a moment and when they return something feels…off. It’s enough to make Wayne stop in his tracks and consider the situation.
He then hears maniacal laughter behind him. He instantly wonders if the Joker has finally figured out that Batman and Bruce Wayne are one in the same person. But that laugh, it’s not the Joker’s laugh. Could it be a laugh that’s even more unhinged?
Wayne turns slowly to find a man slightly crouched in a black and purple body suit. His face is covered with purple makeup.
“I hear you’re looking for stars Mr. Wayne,” he nearly cackles. “I’m a star. I’m a whole galaxy full of stars. A whole cosmos full of stars.”
“Don’t pay attention to him,” another voice calls from behind.
Wayne turns again to see a man with close cropped brown hair wearing a leather jacket with no shirt underneath. A tattoo of the word “dream” is visible on his right pectoral muscle.
“I hear you’re entering the world of sports entertainment, Mr. Wayne. Starting a little wrestling company for fun, are you,” the man says.
“If you’re looking for a job, you should probably speak with my secretary first,” Wayne responds.
The man smiles. “You need me far more than I need you Mr. Wayne. This might be something for you to pass the time, but being the greatest professional wrestler in the world has always been my dream. A dream that could very easily turn into your nightmare.”
“Row, row, row your boat,” a voice starts to sing behind Wayne. He spins on his heels again to see the purple man slowly backing away into
the shadows as he sings. “Gently down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream…”
Wayne turns back to the other man, but instead finds the purple freak flying at him with his mouth agape as if he’s going to rip Wayne’s throat out with his teeth.
The image abruptly shifts to Bruce Wayne sitting up in bed, wearing light blue pajamas. The first streaks of the sunrise are trickling through his window. It had been a dream, but really a nightmare, but really…what really was it? Below a whisper he believes he can hear “life is but a dream” repeated again.
