Well, since I just started catching back up with some comics, obviously, I am going to have some questions. I figured some of the other casual fans might have some as well, so why not just start a thread?

OK, so I just started reading Batman: Long Halloween. In the beginning, Solomon Grundy makes an appearance. He was living in the sewers of Gotham. I don't recall him ever being a member of Batman's Rogue's Gallery. I honestly thought he was just a character made up for the Superfriends cartoon. And even then, I thought he was more of a Superman villain. Has Solomon Grundy always been a Batman villain? If not, when was he introduced?

No, way man. I think you might have him mixed up with Blockbuster, Retard. They are both slow-witted behemoths after all. But Blockbuster was in Batman's rogue gallery, whereas Solomon Grundy is primarily a JSA villian. I don't think Grundy has ever fought Batman except in things Jeph Loeb has written--I think it's just a case of him being a writer's fave.

Here is what Wikipedia says:

A DC Comics character, a large, strong zombie supervillain, was named after this nursery rhyme. The first appearance of Solomon Grundy was in 1944 in an issue of All-American Comics #61 where he squared off with the original Green Lantern. Cyrus Gold was murdered in the later part of the 19th Century, where his body was left in Slaughter Swamp. The corpse remained in the swamp for decades where the organic swamp muck and decomposing flora collected, until one day it took on its own life. After the monster rose from the swamp, he wandered into a hobo camp. Upon questioning, the monster revealed that he did not know his own name and could only remember that he was born on a Monday. Remembering the nursery rhyme, a hobo dubbed the monster Solomon Grundy.
In the Justice League season two episode "The Terror Beyond", Grundy meets a sticky end helping Hawkgirl, Superman, Aquaman and Dr. Fate save the world from an evil god. In honor of his memory, Hawkgirl "tries to follow earth customs" and gives him a western burial. His tombstone proclaims "Solomon Grundy: Born on a Monday".

Solomon Grundy is a short animated 3D film produced at the Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall of 2005 as a collaborative class project. This film is being showcased in a number of film festivals including the 2006 SIGGRAPH Animation Festival, where it received an honorable mention in the Fine/Art Experimental category.

well i'm no DC historian. my entire solomon grundy experience consists of jeph loeb stories and batman TAS. so as far as I'M concerned, grundy's been at batman guy for as long as *I* can remember.

You know what I never noticed till reading Grundy's wiki page?

Remember the JLU episode where Dr. Fate, Hawkwoman, Grundy, and Aquaman fight a mystical threat? I never noticed--despite being a big fan of them when I was a little kid--that that particular assemblage was clearly a Defenders pastiche.

I'm a little chagrined to have that pointed out to me by wiki of all things.
