Opening this thread now, so I don't forget.

Jenn recently brought up on facebook the desire to have our 5 keeper slots with no position requirements. I don't think we need to come up with an answer immediately, but we should make a decision soonish, so people understand keeper rules well in advance.

I'll set a deadline of 10/1 to discuss, post a poll, and vote on a decision.  If there is no discussion, we will leave the current rules unchanged.

The overwhelming consensus on facebook is, at most, only one goalkeeper may be kept. So let's not discuss that item further.

Other than that, there has been discussion on eliminating required positions, but also reducing keeper slots from 5 to 4. Other discussions from the previous thread were to tweak the system, but those were shot down. Please use this thread to make a proposal for this issue, or comment on it.

Or, other rule changes you would like to see.

TL;DR: 5 players, only limit is 1 G.

I personally do not necessarily want to be tied to a G. Intellectually, I understand goalies are at a premium and I know I don't have to keep one, but I almost felt forced to given the absolutely unpredictable nature of these drafts. But this year in particular, I would have preferred to keep 3 forwards and 2 D.

Circling back on the rule for positional requirements for keepers. We are still early in the season, and there's enough time for roster building to take keeper changes in mind for our next draft.

Regarding this particular keeper rule, those that have commented like the idea of 5 total keepers, maximum of 1 goalie. This is probably the simplest plan. Also have seen four skaters and a goalie as an option.

I will just point out that, this would give owners the option to keep any of the following configurations:

1 C, 1 RW, 1 LW, 1D, and 1G as originally used.
3F, 1D, and 1G, as we currently use.
5 Defensemen, zero forwards, zero goalies.
5 Right Wings, zero centers, left wings, defensemen, or goalies.
5 Forwards, zero defensemen, zero goalies.

ADDITIONALLY. We had previous concerns about elite players not circling back into the player pool quickly enough. We never came to a consensus on this issue. If you would like to reignite this discussion, please comment below. We discussed changing the keeper value change each season from +2 to +3, changing the eligible draft rounds for keepers, or even limiting keepers (changing from 5 to 4).

This has always been my concern with not limiting keepers per position. We could wipe out the vast majority of talent at, say, LW if 2-3 people keep 5 each.

I think I mentioned this last time this came up, but we're seeing a change in who the elite talent in the league is right now. EDM's big two, most of TOR's top talent, the big names in COL -- they're all being drafted consistently in the first few rounds. There will always be a breakout star like a Tarasenko or Kucherov or Marner who someone lucks into for the long term, but most of the current and upcoming elite talent is being put back in the pool each season.

Right now we can keep 3 LW; I don’t think there’d be a major issue if that was 4. 5 might be a problem.

This would be my suggestion: 5 keepers - limited to 1 goalie, 2 defensemen, and 4 forwards. This allows a bit more flexibility while not destroying the draft pools and allowing some change.

I don’t think rosters are big enough to handle a 3 round jump for keepers each year. Baseball just moved to that recently and that’s with 27 player rosters. If we’re jumping to 3 rounds and/or lowering the # of keepers, we may as well just go to a full re-draft league.

My first choice would be to keep things as is.
If we really need to change, I'd be ok with 5 total keepers, no more than 4F, 2D, 1G.

I'd vote to keep the 2 round penalty as is.

The consensus seems to be maximums of:

5 Keepers
1 Goalie
2 Defensemen
4 Forwards
