Batman meets the Spirit:
I actually didn't realize that this comic is months old until I started doing research for this thread, so I have no idea if this is still widely available at all, or if my comic book store just happened to have a few copies left, but I strongly recommend it.
I've been a bit torn on Darwyn Cooke--looking over New Frontier in the comic book shop and trying to decide if it was something I wanted to get into or not. But this jumped out at me right away, and I snatched it up. Here's the great splash page:
And a cool action sequence of the Spirit and Batman fighting:
The Spirit brings a unique perspective on Batman that works well at characterizing them both simultaneously: "Come on. Batman isn't real." "You don't talk much do you?"
Cooke's visual take on Batman is a fun mix of Toth, Mazzuchelli, and TAS (which he was an animator for.) Cooke is now about five issues into a regular monthly series of The Spirit. I'll be looking to get caught up on that the next time I make it over to the comic book store.
