Ok, who watched it, who wants to see it? Hands up?
I picked it up today, after hearing some really bad reviews online (AICN, others). But you know what? Not all that terrible. The major complaints going around....wait....
SPOILERS!!!!
OK...The major complaints going around are that the JLA make no appearance, Doomsday doesn't have the long, stretched out, breaking through the containment unit/ground unveiling, Lois dates Supes but isn't aware he's Clark, and finally there's no Reign of Supermen.
Well, here's the thing. I think time constraint got in the way of using the JLA, and stretching out Doomsday's reveal. I will agree that Doomsy is in this flick WAY too little. And the fight is WAY too short, but again, time contraints.
As for the Supes/Lois problem, she actually does realize that Supes = Clark, but he has never admitted it. So, you still get that whole "Lois loses Superman like everyone else but also she loses her love, as well as she has to hide from everyone that Clark is dead" problem here in the movie.
And really, the Reign of Superman thing IS kinda covered, in a neat little package. There's a clone Superman (Superboy), who at first upholds the beliefs of Superman (Steel) but eventually he uses lethal action to protect Metropolis (Eradicator), and then turns almost completely evil, in (Almost Man of Steel/Hank Henshaw) a ruler over the weaker race sort of way.
Yes, there's also a WHOLE bunch of problems with the art. Superman's chin looks ridiculous, and Lex's right hand woman (whose name just jumped out of my head) has no nose, unless she's facing sideways. But, overall, the flick isn't terrible.
I can't really recommend or not. If you're a hardcore fan, you'll be pissed. If just want to watch something Superman-ish, it's a fun bit of cartooning.
Lastly, keep an eye pealed for the Kevin Smith cameo. Anyone who watched Evening with Kevin Smith will get a TOTAL kick out of it.
