If the show continued with Caruso, I'd never vote for it. But the Smits/Delaney years were really fucking good. The 1 Ricky "can't act worth a damn" Schroeder year was as bad as anything by David Causo and while I didn't watch a ton after Smits died, I think the Gosselear years weren't actually that bad. It may be Zach Morris, but he can out-act Richie Rich every day of the week.

None of that is relevant to Hill Street Blues-never saw it, don't care to.

I didn't watch either of these shows. I've seen NYPD Blue at least a few times so it will get my vote.

What? Did HSB begat Cop Rock or that Cop Rock begat NYPD Blue. Because you COULD say the latter but you'd be a retard. And the first isn't terribly true either. Hill Street Blues was a gritty and involved look at the serial world of cops and their lives, a stark step away from something like Dragnet and basically not what Law and Order is. Cop Rock, HSB, and Blue were all cop shows. That's not what unites them. That Blue basically IS HSB is what unites them and makes Blues the originator of the majority of what Blue was. There were Cop shows before Blues. Were they like Blues or did Blues do and establish something new? And didn't Cop ROck just bring a whole new retarded spin on the cop show?

Also just because there would be no ____ if their was no _______ doesn't mean that the first show was better. In many ways the second shw adds many elements or does the details better. In this case I have seen neither so I can't comment I'm just pointing out the relative flaw to that line of thinking.

But that line of thinking is rooted in a basic idea. That the 1st show did it RIGHT and did it SO profoundly that it should be held up. I agree in principle. TV CAN evolve. You can take something and do it better. Even something done great. Being first does not equal being best.

In this case Blues was great. So its not like I'm just taking a show that happened to be first and saying it. I'm saying it was GREAT and it WAS Blue before Blue showed up. Ultimately if you watched both and just preferred NYPD Blue I may not disagree but I can't kill you. I just get frustrated knowing that a lot of the reason NYPD Blue is running away with this is because people basically just don't know HSB. And then to basically see arguments be made for Blue that completely apply to Blues.

To be honest I just thought it was silly to mention Cop Rock in the same sentence as these 2 shows.
