This is basically me and Dev vs. Serg. We're the only people who nominated these shows. On my side, we have my favorite show of all time, Battlestar Galactica. Now, just because it has the word "battlestar" in its titles doesn't mean it's a sci-fi show. Yes, it's on the Sci-Fi channel, but this show is about so much more than that. After being decimated by a Cylon attack, around 50,000 surviving humans have to find Earth and escape the Cylons who keep following them around the galaxy. They cover every subject possible. How to live, democracy, martial law, abortion, workers' rights, etc, etc.

On the other side, you have the Justice League. Don't vote for it.

The case for JLU:
A much better adaptation of the DC Universe than any other show has done, starting off a great show about a relatively small team of heroes and then expanding the concept to make it into a sort of anthology where a lot of different and diverse characters could get the spotlight as well as the bigger ensemble episodes. Cool guest voices (Amy Acker, Adam Baldwin, Clancy Brown, Michael Rosenbaum, Ron Perlman, Michael Ironside, Nathan Fillion, Jeffrey Coombs etc), and well wrote enough that adults could enjoy it without it becoming unfriendly to kids.

The fourth season.

There were good things in the show before and good things after, but the fourth season is why I put this down as not just a great cartoon, but as one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.

[Lots and lots of spoilers, BTW.]

The first seeds for it are planted back in Season 2, when they meet the Justice Lords in "A Better World." They're an alternate version of the League from a world where President Luthor murders Flash, and then the Justice Lords kill him and take over the world as dictators. When they decide to take over the League's world, too, the League needs Luthor's help to stop them, for which he gets a full pardon. And decides to go into politics himself.

I take it back, the first seed is planted way back in season 2 of Superman, when Brainiac takes over LexCorp's computer system and forces Luthor to build him a new body.

So, much later, Luthor is running for President, and manipulating things to create escalating mistrust between the League and the government. This leads up to him taking over the League's satellite to destroy a Cadmus installation. One that had been evacuated, but the League had no way of knowing that, so Luthor has them framed for attempted murder.

Batman and Amanda Waller find proof that Luthor was behind it all, and the League and the government go to his headquarters to arrest him. And then Luthor transforms into a half-Brainiac-half-Luthor symbiont creature and starts kicking everyone's asses. Everyone is incapacitated except for the Flash, who he wants to murder in front of all of his friends. And then Flash . . . runs away. Apparently. Watch this:

The first is the very first scene from the mini-series, which began the show. Pretty much gives you the low-down.



The first is a scene from Season 2. Lots of intersecting scenes from prep for a presidential debate and an effort to rescue human survivors on the enemy planet.



The second is from Season 1. Starbuck is sent back to Caprica, one of the former home planets of the human race, to retrieve something for the president. She discovers that Helo is alive and they go back to her old apartment. Really poignant scene as Starbuck talks about why she doesn't miss her old life.



The third is called the death of the Pegasus. In Season 2, another the Battlestar Pegasus joined the fleet and with two battlestars, they were pretty well protected. Unfortunately, due to some miscommunication, they get separated and the Cylons engage the Galactica in battle. The Galactica would've been mince-meat, but Lee, commanding the Pegasus, makes a suicide run straight at one of the Cylon base ships. The Pegasus destroys it, but in doing so, destroys itself too.



The last one is from the Season 3 finale, the last new episode. Set to "All Along the Watchtower." Basically, they revealed who the final five Cylons were, which had been a mystery throughout the entire show. This scene also revealed that Starbuck was alive after she totally crashed her Viper and was believed to be dead. A really really awesome way to end the season.

You know, I was going to say that I felt bad I voted for Justice League. I mean, I like it but I don't really feel like it belongs in a tourney like this. And I really thought that your show would move on a round so I skipped the Hot Chick rule. But then I read the description of these scenes. My head just fucking hurts now.

And that 2nd chick. "6"? Something scary.

That episode was so freaking awesome. I actually felt it when everyone thought Flash died using the speed force.

Another great thing about that ep, Stu, is that Michael Rosenbaum plays Flash in JLU and plays Luthor in Smallville. But in that episode, he plays Luthor in Flash's body. Brilliant.

Flash was easily my favorite character in that series. He was funny throughouht the series, but those two episodes show how badass he could be.

Another great ep with Flash is the one in Keystone City where he and (I don't remember who) fought his Rogues. His sitdown chat with Trixter (omg Mark Hammill!) was great.

"Flash and Substance" was great for the bit in the museum where you see Jay Garrick's helmet and the Kid Flash costume, indicating Wally's a legacy hero.

That IS an amazing episode. The "I can find out who the Flash is... I have no idea who this is." and "Are you going to wash your hands?/No, I'm evil." lines were awesome. I thought Flash could be kind of annoying in the show just like Wally was in the comics for so long. But there was some real brilliance in there.

Ok, I REALLY don't feel bad for maybe getting the hot chicks out of here.
