Angle's busted open eyebrow. Shane's coast-to-coast. Angle's brilliant selling that wasn't really selling, because he was really in that much pain from a powerslam to the concrete that damaged his lower back. Angle gutting it through the rest of a brutal match. The amazing plate glass spot. The inspired (impromptu?) idea to use the prop box to wheel Shane back to the ring, because Angle was in too much pain to have carried him back. Heyman screeching about "ingenious" being the fourth "I." Shane kicking out of the Angle slam. The angle slam standing on a plank balanced on the top rope.

Angle was always one of my favorites but Bret was my childhood hero.

This is going to sound as dorky as the Rock stuff from High School but oh well I'm sharing it anyway. When I was a kid in the early 90s I had a vivid imagination. In 4th-6th grade I had a made up Fed (not that unsimilar to OOWF) where I took my school friends and gave them wrestling characters. Then I would wrestle matches on PPVS with my wrestling buddies and record the wins and such. Anyway my character was The Italian Stallion (Solly and Mike approve). But I was just a kid and I could come up with names but I always had to base movesets off a real wrestler. The Stallion WAS Bret Hart. He wore the same black tank and pants but rather then pink the colors were red, green, and white. He had the leather jacket with an Italian Flag and also gave the shades to the kids at ringside. He used the five moves of doom and finished matches with the Sharpshooter. In my childhood I basically pretended to be Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

Even when I was in High School and my friends and I were videotaping wrestling matched on the trampoline I still had ties with that Hart-like character. There was only 8-10 of us so to make a full roster we each created 3 characters. For readers of OOWF this is when I created "The Main Event" Chris Cole. But my number two character was the Italian Stallion (and after a heel turn The Dark Stallion). When I joined the OOWF I actually gave thought to using Stallion over Cole.

So while Angle may be one of my favorites during my favorite period in wrestling he can NEVER match my childhood idol that was Bret Hart.

Honestly, I don't think there's one aspect of wrestling that Bret is better than Kurt at, except maybe being a whiny bitch. But Kurt's been giving Bret a run for his money in that category lately also.

Funny thing is, I respect the hell out of both guys, but neither of them does anything for me. For me, I've only cared about their opponents and in this case, I've cared more about what Angle's done with Benoit, Brock, Show, Rock, HBK, Shelton, and Eddie than anything that Bret's done outside of the Iron Man with HBK. Even though his match with Stone Cold is considered one of the best of all time, I still give the nod to Angle. Unless I'm misrembering something, Angle never had a "this is the end" routine. He'd go from suplexes to the Angle Slam just like that. Or maybe counter something into the Ankle Lock. I always like that about him. Even when we got into the "five moves of Doom" main event style that Raw loves so much, at least he did his out of order.

Hart was my favorite growing up, but Angle is so versatile.
Angle seems to be a wreck, but I'll give him the nod. Although he annoys the living shit out of me.





I found an old tape the other day that had Angle talking with Christian and he was bitching about somebody not wanting to wrestle and Angle points out that "I won an Olympic Gold Medal with a broken freakin' neck!" The guy's driven.
