Solly and I got to talking via AIM this morning about Demko's post about trying out for the World Series of Pop Culture. I know there are a lot of us here that are into stupid little trivia stuff like that (Thai even tried out for the WSOPC himself), so how many of you guys would be interested in starting a similar game here at Pun's House? After talking with BFG, who used to run the SurvivOOr game at OO, we may be able to modify his rules a bit and run it similar to that. Before Solly and I get too far into it, however, I wanted to see if we had enough interest that we could run it in teams of 2, 3, 4, whatever.

Let us know who's in.

See, that was my concern too. I asked pun if it wouldn't just become the 'World Series of Internet Researchers', and he said that the other games being run here and at OO (the Movie Frame game and the Six Degree game) are run on the honor system. If you wanna cheat, then you're the one who's having to look yourself in the mirror every morning.

It's not like we're actually playing for the $50,000, so if someone wants to cheat on a free game... go ahead. :-P

Technically, "Movie frames" is not on the honor system, so much as a "this game isn't as easy to cheat on, so we don't need an honor system" system.

The problem is we have no honor. Tex and others pretty blatantly cheat at the Frame Game and as a result we took to hosting the images ourselves and often leaving insults and false clues in the titles. So, I mean... lets be real. If we were playing for money maybe we could trust that we were being honorable. But with the lack of real consequences comes no real roadblock on cheating for basically honorable people. "I want to solve that one... I'm so close... fuck it, who cares if I cheat? Not like there's money on the line or anything."

I mean the honor system still works as well as it does with the Six Degrees game. Frame Game is easier to trust because the best you can usually do is double check a guess. You normally can't google "picture of retarded looking redneck dude." Maybe an actor name and you get lucky or do an IMDB search just to see if anything catches your eye. But cheating isn't easy. As opposed to the Six Degrees where IMDB offers a nice and simple "crosscheck" feature for actors. I have no doubt that guys playing that game cheat on occasion and I'd bet money that at least one regular player is nothing but a cheater but as long as you pretend otherwise you can keep having fun in blissful ignorance.

I have no idea if I'm interested. Maybe but ultimately trivia has never been my thing and I'd probably lose interest and eb and flow just like I do with the Frame Game.

As far as the cheating thing, I have no idea how these games are played, but it would seem harder to cheat if everything were happening in real time at a set time in a chat room or something.

Of all my friends, I'm regarded as the trivia guy. I retain useless crap but can't remember important stuff.

My net time may pose a problem, though. I'll see how the rules/team stuff works. I guess I'm a 'tweener.

That might be cool, except that every weeknight is filled with wrestling chat right now, and this doesn't seem like the kinda thing that people would give up a weekend evening to participate in.
