I've got the first volume pre-ordered, since the series has been highly recommended for years, but I don't really know why. Can anyone tell me without spoilers?

because it's awesome. it's a perfect example of what happens when one creator takes hold of a character for an extended period of time and is allowed to just tell his story without interruption.

starman almost coulda been a vertigo book. it wasn't out of continuity, but it was just isolated enough that it wasn't held back or taken off track by the larger DC universe big picture.

other than that it's just really well told stories.

i've had this on order for a while. can't wait to reread these issues.

Cool. The only thing I've read with the character in it was JSA: Justice Be Done, and he didn't really factor into the stoy much.
